Trick Studio is believed to be the likely candidate for this as the studio has previously worked on The Expanse: A Telltale Series.

Despite having officially been confirmed quite a few years ago, no real details about The Wolf Among Us 2 have been revealed so far. Now, Spanish outlet PressOver has reported that the game is being co-developed by an Argentina-based studio. This studio has been noted as working on the project for an unconfirmed number of months.

Sources have indicated to PressOver that work on The Wolf Among Us 2 had started “from scratch” (via machine translation) at the end of 2025, and that it will be officially unveiled later this year and released by 2027. Interestingly, the report has also noted that, leading up to the sequel’s release, the original The Wolf Among Us will be getting a release on PS5 and Xbox Series X/S. The title was originally released in 2013 across PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Mp1st has been able to further corroborate the report, and the publication claims to have new evidence of the remaster or port of The Wolf Among Us. This evidence comes in the form of photos showing off the development of the game, with strong indications that the studio—rumored to be Trick Studios—is working on familiar environments from the 2013 title, like the Business Office of Ichabod Crane. The photos are fairly blurry, and also include a menu screen that bears a striking resemblance to the one from the original release.

While these photos might be an indication that Trick Studio is making use of assets and ideas from The Wolf Among Us for work on the sequel, the fact that Telltale has previously confirmed that The Wolf Among Us 2 is being developed using Unreal Engine 5 makes this idea quite unlikely.

Another key piece of evidence of The Wolf Among Us coming to modern gaming consoles comes from the studio’s official website. While references to both projects have been removed since they were discovered by Reddit users, the older version of the website is thankfully still available through Archive.org, and includes placeholder images for the sequel and the original.

The original developers behind The Last of Us have long-since left Telltale Games, having founded their own studio: AdHoc Studio. Co-founder Nick Herman had spoken about The Wolf Among Us 2, how the team had worked on it for a few years, and how no one at the studio has any idea about its ultimate fate.

“We wrote a season, Season Two,” explained Herman. “We think it’s better than Season One – and we were on Season One. And yeah, we’re really proud of it. We were doing tests. We were in cinematics and animation and stuff. And then basically they needed more time. “They weren’t… We weren’t running the project. It was Telltale we were doing it in partnership with. And we couldn’t wait around and do nothing, so we had to move on to Dispatch to keep the studio moving, and they needed to go their own way.”

“We’re looking forward to seeing what they do with it,” he continued. “I don’t know how much of our version of the script is going to make it into what they end up making. But if one day we were able to make the thing that we wrote and were in the middle of directing, we think people would love it. So, you know, good luck.”

Back in 2024, Telltale Games had also reaffirmed that The Wolf Among Us 2 had not been cancelled. In the meantime, The Wolf Among Us remains available to play on PC, PS4 and Xbox One. PS5 and Xbox series X/S can also play the title through backwards compatibility.

These serial killer conspiracies are sure to send a chill down your spine.

We all have heard stories of notorious serial killers such as the likes of Ted Bundy and Jack The Ripper, and even hearing about these horrendous acts of violence can send a chill down anyone’s spine – let alone imagining what exactly caused them to choose such routes of violence. That said, serial killers can serve as fantastic antagonists for any piece of fiction – which includes video games. To that end, here are 15 serial killer conspiracies in games.

Red Dead Redemption 2 – American Dreams Quest

While Red Dead Redemption 2 features a rapidly changing America where the law and civilization are making their way into society, acts of heinous criminal activity are still running rampant that still show the signs of the Wild West that this place once was. During their travels, players will come across some brutally murdered people with deformed corpses lying around. Upon closer inspection though, Arthur Morgan comes to the conclusion that all these are acts of a serial killer. If you use Arthur’s detective mode around here, the trails will lead you to pieces of a map. Once all map segments are collected, an American Dreams side quest is triggered which entails bringing the serial killer to justice.

Even if you haven't played the original The Wolf Among Us, you should still be able to easily follow the story told in its upcoming sequel.

The Wolf Among Us’ final episode launched nearly eight years ago at this point, and that’ll be nine by the time The Wolf Among Us 2 launches- which means there’s a good chance that a decent chunk of the sequel’s player base is going to jump in without having played the original and knowing what story it told. Of course, that’s a dilemma that sequels face all too often, especially when there’s a gap between their release and their predecessor’s. So is that going to be an issue in The Wolf Among Us 2?

Not according to its developers at Telltale Games. Speaking in an interview with Edge (via IGN), Telltale CEO Jamie Ottilie said that The Wolf Among Us 2’s written in a way to ensure that those who’ve never played the original game can still “come in at this point and understand what’s going on.”

“We strive to design our narratives so they can stand on their own,” he said. “We think the opening of the first episode sets things up in such a way that the player understands how the characters got where they are now.”

The Wolf Among Us 2 is set six months after the events of the first game, and will take place in the winter “all over” New York. Unlike the original game, where each episode was developed separately, Telltale is developing all episodes of the sequel in one go, to ensure a steadier and more consistent release rollout between episodes.

The Wolf Among Us 2’s first episode will launch for PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One, and PC sometime in 2023. Meanwhile, Telltale is currently also working with Life is Strange: True Colors developer Deck Nine on The Expanse: A Telltale Series.

Things could have ended on a higher note with these titles but alas.

Have you ever played a game, enjoying its various highs and lows but dreading the inevitable conclusion? Has said conclusion come out of nowhere, leading to the desire for more? Let’s take a look at 15 games that encapsulated that feeling. Spoilers incoming so be warned.

Vanquish

Rocket sliding into cover and vaulting over in slow-mo to gun down foes never looked or felt as good as it did in Vanquish. But even at roughly six hours for the main campaign, it just simply ended following the battle with Bogey Alpha and Bravo. No final battle with Victor Zaitsev, who subsequently escapes and destroys Providence. Even US president Elizabeth Winters, who sought to destroy Moscow with Providence’s microwave transmitter, simply kills herself. At least Sam and Elena survived so that’s nice.

Two different kinds of adventure games are free this week.

Over the last few weeks, Epic Games has scaled back a bit on their free game giveaways, going from two games a weeks back to one. But this week we’re in for a treat as now there’s two titles again in the form of two very different adventure titles.

First up is The Wolf Among Us. This giveaway wasn’t announced last week, so it’s a bit of a surprise. The game was one of the first to be released in the Telltale style we came to know all too well before the original studio closed down. The game follows Bigby Wolf in a mystery in Fabletown that goes down some unexpected paths. The game is based on the acclaimed Fables comic series and was an original story set in that world. The sequel was also announced to still be alive, though no details are up on that.

And then we get the game that was originally announced: The Escapists. The game is a 2D adventure game that challenges you to craft and combine items to escape prison in a sandbox setting.

Both games will be free up until December 19th for all PC users using the Epic Games Store. As of now it’s not been announced what the next game(s) will be after that.

Telltale tips its hand for the upcoming year or so.

Telltale Games told us yesterday that a second season of The Wolf Among Us would not be coming. They lied to us. Today, they announced that a second season of The Wolf Among Us will be releasing early next year, with a fresh story arc and a fresh cast of characters (meaning that no, the cliffhanger at the end of the first season will not be resolved).

This apart, they also announced the next season of The Walking Dead, which will also be the final season- it’s titled The Walking Dead: The Final Season and everything. Finally, Batman: The Enemy Within is the next season of the Telltale Batman series, and will actually be launching later this year, on August 8, for PS4, Xbox One, iOS, Android, PC, and Mac.

As for the other two- they have been announced for 2018 releases, and while PC, Mac, iOS, Android, PS4, and Xbox One releases have been confirmed, Telltale has also said that ‘additional platforms’ are to be announced- does this indicate a Switch release for them?

Neither are getting a follow up any time soon, then.

Yesterday, our hopes were raised- The Wolf Among Us and Tales from the Borderlands follow ups were apparently teased, and we got excited, because come on, those are the best Telltale games. However, it looks like neither of those games will be happening.

Speaking on Twitter, Job Stauffer of Telltale said that people might be getting their hopes up for no reason. “I worry about people getting their hopes up in the wrong direction,” Stauffer wrote on Twitter. “Adam also voices Groot in our GotG,” he said, referring to Guardians of the Galaxy. “We’d KILL to step back into that world [of The Wolf Among Us] some day and we know our fans would too,” Stauffer continued. “Your voices and your passion will never go unheard here at [Telltale].”

He also addressed Borderlands, noting that the next game in that franchise will be from Gearbox. “As we’ve said before, we LOVE that project with all of our hearts,” Stauffer stated. “But the next entry in the Borderlands story will be from Gearbox Software.”

So… that’s that, folks. I guess that’s a bit of a bummer.

If there is any Telltale series that has even managed to come close to garnering the kind of acclaim that The Walking Dead did, it’s probably The Wolf Among Us. Based on the graphic novels, it was hugely beloved, and players have been waiting for a second season for it ever since the first one concluded four years ago.

However, that has not happened until now- the important words in that sentence are ‘until now’. It sounds like a new season for the game may be announced at San Diego Comic Con. Telltale tweeted a simple tweet teasing an update for their slate at the SDCC, without specifying or naming any game- but that tweet was then retweeted by Adam Harrington, the actor who played Bigby in the original game. Which is, you know, pretty telling, since it’s not like he retweets everything Telltale tweets.

Of course, until this is confirmed, this is just speculation- so be excited, but don’t get your hopes up too high, okay?

Or is there a different problem with The Walking Dead developer?

Telltale Games started in 2004, almost 11 years ago, and it wasn’t exactly the most renowned studio out there. That’s not a knock against the developer per say – it just wasn’t creating what one would call “triple A” blockbusters. What it did offer were adventure games. This was at a time when the so-called adventure gaming genre was still trying to find its bearings after the great collapse of the late 90s. Bone: Out from Boneville, Sam & Max Save the World and Tales of Monkey Island are some of the bigger standout titles the developer brought to us during its initial years.

"Back to the Future: The Game began the company’s fixation on pop culture franchises translated into the video game format with hardly any hang-ups."

Where did the transition happen to The Walking Dead model of gameplay? Interestingly enough, Back to the Future: The Game could be looked at as the best possible instance. Don’t get us wrong – Telltale’s signature gameplay style had been in play long before this. However, Back to the Future: The Game began the company’s fixation on pop culture franchises translated into the video game format with hardly any hang-ups. It was accessible to the masses but offered a compelling narrative and structure to appeal to gamers.

Telltale was still getting its bearings at this time. Jurassic Park and Law & Order: Legacies weren’t exactly all that great. But in April 24th 2012, The Walking Dead finally arrived. It did so modestly enough since this was an episodic format. We were introduced to Lee Everett and Clementine; to a world of the undead where, not unlike the comic, each decision made a difference. For all intents and purposes, it wasn’t just a Telltale Games story – it was an effectively well told story.

After the game’s success, Telltale expanded its formula to a variety of properties. The Wolf Among Us, Tales From the Borderlands and The Walking Dead: Season Two – these still remain some of Telltale’s best games, if not the most effective stories told within the interactive adventure format.

However, as time passed, other games began to jump on the episodic format. Resident Evil Revelations 2, Life is Strange and even the upcoming Final Fantasy 7 Remake (though decidedly larger) will have some kind of episodic format. But as Telltale continued on its way, something started to happen to its games.

"Things got even worse in Minecraft: Story Mode. How could you go wrong with Minecraft, especially when delivering a story? Of all the developers, Telltale found a way."

It started with Game of Thrones, which took place before the fourth season and focused on House Forrester. Cameos by the more famous characters like Cersei and Tyrion Lannister were included. And really, what better franchise than Game of Thrones to emphasize the important decisions one has to make? Here’s the thing though: Game of Thrones is a pretty brilliant piece of work (if you haven’t heard). It’s story-telling is amazing, even within the confines of a weekly TV show format…and that’s with the recent changes that have been made. And yet somehow, the story told in Telltale’s Game of Thrones didn’t feel as compelling or interesting. Sure it had its moments but it was not on par with the show’s brilliance.

Does it have to be? Not really, but it should be a successful standalone story connecting into the bigger web while also performing as an effective story on its own. Both those factors were executed well in The Walking Dead Season One and Two but not in Game of Thrones.

Things got even worse in Minecraft: Story Mode. How could you go wrong with Minecraft, especially when delivering a story? Of all the developers, Telltale found a way. One could say that there wasn’t all that much to build on in the first place. Perhaps Telltale was given limited freedom in the first place to craft an epic narrative. However, if your game is focused on battling a Witherstorm that will consume the world and your heroes need to find the fabled Order of the Stone to stop it, you could probably do a better job with the story-telling.

And now we have The Walking Dead: Michonne, a “mini-series” which actually provides a story arc taking place in the comics. Lo and behold, it’s faced criticism for its story telling and relative short length.

"Fatigue may not have set in yet for fans of the interactive adventure genre but a single story-telling approach isn’t going to cut it for very long."

Is the Telltale Games formula wearing thing? Did the studio’s reach extend its grasp with so many high-profile projects in the works (at last count, there’s Batman, The Walking Dead: Season Three, Marvel’s game and Game of Thrones: Season Two)? There could be many factors at play. It’s not like the world isn’t receptive to the company’s efforts. Minecraft: Story Mode spent several weeks in the top 10 best-selling charts for the UK and that’s probably the worst game Telltale has made recently.

While one could easily blame the format, it’s worth noting that books haven’t changed their general formats in decades. Story-telling has evolved though, expanding into graphical novels, audio books, moving pictures, animation and much more. But a book is still a story told through words, whether published on paper in your hands or in digital text on a screen.

How has your average book survived throughout the years as a strong story-telling medium? The story-telling and even with the benefit of different authors and tales over the decades, the ways said stories were told could always be different. For all of Telltale’s brilliance, it needs to evolve its story-telling approach sooner than later. Fatigue may not have set in yet for fans of the interactive adventure genre but a single story-telling approach isn’t going to cut it for very long.

Co-founder steps up as replacement.

Telltale Games, the developers of the episodic adventure games based on popular media properties such as Back to the Future, Jurassic Park, The Walking Dead, The Wolf Among Us, Borderlands, and Game of Thrones, announced today that CEO Dan Connors has stepped down, and he will be replaced by fellow co-founder Kevin Bruner.

The change in leadership appears to have been amicable, as Connors will apparently stay on with the company in an advisory role.

“2014 marked our tenth consecutive year of continued growth since co-founding Telltale with Kevin Bruner in 2004. In that time, we’ve been incredibly proud to have accomplished so much with some of the most talented people in entertainment,” Telltale’s Dan Connors said in a statement. “2015 is the first of the next ten years for an ever-evolving Telltale. As we enter this new phase, and as Kevin transitions to my former role of CEO, I will remain with the company and on the board in an advisory role that will help ensure Telltale’s vision of continuing to break new ground as leading storytellers in the entertainment space.”

“Each year since Telltale’s 2004 birth has been more exciting than the last, and 2015 will be no exception,” said Kevin Bruner. “We’re thrilled to continue our growth and bring our unique style of scripted entertainment to the next generation of digital media, and do that across thousands of different devices. Our top priority is to continue fostering an environment where the most talented and creative storytellers in the industry are working side by side with the world’s biggest creative partners.

“We’re already working on some of the biggest franchises in entertainment, and when you add our unannounced partnerships and upcoming original IP, it’s clear the most exciting time to be at Telltale is now, and there will continue to be more and more opportunity to innovate ahead of us.”

Of course, the most important takeaway here, for gamers, that is, is that Telltale is now working on an original new IP- personally, I am excited to see this. The studio obviously has a lot of talent, but it cannot be denied a lot of its success comes from having strong material to work with to begin with, as well as of course, riding the coattails of brand recognition. I want to see how Telltale does with its own universe and characters- success, of course, is all but assured for them at this point.

Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more.
