The reveal of Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse at Sony’s last State of Play has us excited, but if you can’t wait for its release, there’s good news. It’s one of the many titles confirmed for the returning Triple-i Initiative Showcase on April 9th, premiering at 9 AM PT on YouTube and Twitch and lasting a whopping 45+ minutes.

Hosted by Evil Empire, which is developing Belmont’s Curse, the inclusion of the latter makes sense, but there’s much more to look forward to. Dead as Disco, Risk of Rain 2, Windrose, Alkahest and Alabaster Dawn will also appear while sunset visitor (1000xRESIST), tinyBuild, Daedalic Entertainment, 11 bit studios, Klei, Outersloth and Devolver Digital are confirmed.

Overall, you can expect eight world premieres and gameplay reveals alongside release dates for already-announced titles. If that wasn’t enough, the “zero fluff” showcase will feature deep dives on select titles in the post-show.

At this point, release dates for titles like Dead as Disco and Windrose, both of which received overwhelmingly positive responses during their respective Steam Next Fests, seem a given. Radical Fish Games also promises a big announcement, which could mean an early access release date for Alabaster Dawn (previously slated for last year). Stay tuned for all the updates and announcements when the show rolls around.

Ferocious is an indie shooter that throws you on an island full of dinosaurs, soldiers and mechs with some guns. Is it worth your time

While most shooters coming out in this day and age tend to either focus on multiplayer, or they try to aim for some hyper-specific niche, like going all-in on realism, for instance. Developer OMYOG, however, decided to go in a vastly different direction with its outing – Ferocious. Rather than honing in on one specific idea, Ferocious instead feels more like a return to the kinds of shooters we used to see quite often during the PS3/Xbox 360 and PS4/Xbox One console generations. The kind where, while there are plenty of enemies to fight and a world to explore, it is ultimately still a power fantasy.

"Rather than the typical wildlife you might expect, the entire place is filled with animals from prehistory, from dinosaurs to large insects and gigantic crustaceans."

Ferocious kicks things off with a simple premise that we’ve seen plenty of times before, especially in something like the Far Cry series. You, along with your brother, find yourselves shipwrecked on a strange island, and the two of you are the only survivors. While this island looks like it could be any one of the thousands of uninhabited islands in the world, it is in fact one that time has seemingly forgotten.

Rather than the typical wildlife you might expect, the entire place is filled with animals from prehistory, from dinosaurs to large insects and gigantic crustaceans. And to make matters worse, in the chaos of your shipwreck, you got separated from your brother and he has been captured by another group of humans that seems to have their own agenda with the island. Armed with little more than sticks, scraps of cloth and bones you find near the shore, it is now up to you to find and rescue your brother and figure out a way off this island.

That’s about the extent of how complex the story of Ferocious really gets. There isn’t really much to it here aside from “go there and kill some people who might know where your brother is”. Things do open a fair bit after a few hours, and we do get more characters, but we never really end up getting answers to some burning questions, like why this island still has dinosaurs on it, what’s up with the ancient seemingly-human ruins all over the place, and why is a well-equipped private military company setting up bases all over the place.

"Ferocious calls itself a “survival shooter”, but don’t let that label fool you."

While the core story might not be much, it offers enough motivation to get you going and discovering what makes Ferocious truly special – a combination of its core systems and general jank that ultimately leads to some surprisingly satisfying gameplay. Ferocious calls itself a “survival shooter”, but don’t let that label fool you. You aren’t going to be building your own shelter or foraging for food. Rather, the “survival” aspect largely comes down to its crafting system. Throughout your time on the mysterious island, you’ll find plenty of flora to forage and fauna to kill and skin. Using these, you get to craft most of the things you will need in your quest to save your brother, from healing bandages to throwing spears, pouches to carry extra ammo, and even an entire holster that lets you carry multiple weapons.

This crafting system also serves as the core progression system in Ferocious. There aren’t any skill trees to climb; rather, just about every major boost in power comes from your crafting abilities, like giving you more effective health by allowing you to craft and equip more and more armour made out of monster chitin, or simply giving you more destructive capabilities by letting you carry more bullets, grenades and spears. Just about every one of these aspects tie into the core action-packed gameplay.

And the action definitely feels like it was where most of the attention during the game’s development went. As you start taking on the human foes, you’ll start getting your hands on a variety of weapons, all drawing from the real world, from pistols to shotguns and rifles. While levels are laid out in a way as to let you figure out your own approach, however, OMYOG has made it clear through gameplay decisions that stealth isn’t really the main style of gameplay here; rather, you are encouraged to maybe take out one or two enemies in a camp out through melee before then going in guns-blazing..

"OMYOG has made it clear through gameplay decisions that stealth isn’t really the main style of gameplay here"

Taking a break from the action, there are also the rare moments where you get to explore the world and solve some puzzles. These never really get more complex than “find the right button to open the gate”, and even if the possibilities for more complicated puzzles open up when you get a device that lets you control some of the smaller dinosaurs. However, even then, the puzzles end up being getting the dinosaur into the right hole in the wall to get to the right door-opening switch. As an aside, the same dino controlling device also lets you sic the tiny dinosaurs on enemies, but it often tends to feel less satisfying than just picking up your favourite gun instead.

When it comes to the action, only the humans feel like interesting enemies to take on. Sure, the dinosaurs and other creatures are great, especially in how they look, but they don’t really have much going on in terms of their AI. All non-human enemies will do little more than just charge straight at you at full speed, giving you plenty of chances to just side-step and shoot them in the back. And this is also how many of the fights are designed in general; an early example involves taking on a monstrously-large crab, and your tactical options basically boil down to kiting it in a circle around the arena while you chuck grenades at it.

Human enemies, on the other hand, tend to try and employ some tactics once they feel like they’re under attack. They’ll take cover, they’ll try to use flanking maneuvers, and they’ll even start lobbing a grenade or two at you to try and get you out of cover. This, along with the fact that they tend to be much better equipped to deal with your general strategy thanks to their weapons, means that they are often a lot more interesting to fight. This is doubly true for the mechas you sometimes have to take on, which serve as rare mini-bosses for the larger human bases in the game. Fights in general can feel quite dynamic, thanks to the fact that guns have the tendency to shred through weak wooden cover, so you are constantly encouraged to be on the move.

"Fights in general can feel quite dynamic, thanks to the fact that guns have the tendency to shred through weak wooden cover, so you are constantly encouraged to be on the move."

Even the human enemies aren’t without their own problems, however. They often suffer from short-term memory loss and forget your position quite quickly if they haven’t seen you in 20 seconds, and they can also find themselves getting stuck on some level geometry, leaving them to be essentially sitting ducks. In the rare instances where you get to take on humans and dinosaurs at the same time, the AI for both of them tends to break apart thanks to them being confused about how to prioritise, even if you haven’t directly started engaging with them. This also means that we can sometimes see dinosaurs and humans in the same zone chilling and minding their own business until you get spotted.

A similar juxtaposition of quality and jank can also be seen in the visuals of Ferocious. It is a downright gorgeous game, and it’s well aware of this fact. It will gladly provide you with gorgeous vistas so that you have something pretty to look at while you’re running around. However, elements of the visuals also have the tendency of suffering from pop-in. And make no mistake, the PC used to review the game is well over the recommended specs – an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D CPU, 32 GB of DDR5-6000 RAM, and a Radeon RX 7800 XT GPU. Despite this, there were also occasional dips in the frame rate, especially when you loaded into a new zone. These dips didn’t last for too long, but they did contribute quite a bit in making the gameplay feel choppier than it should have.

Generally speaking, Ferocious is an ambitious title for a smaller studio; it looks downright gorgeous, and the gameplay tends to be fun most of the time. However, the few bits of jank in visuals sometimes popping in, the occasional frame drops, and enemies essentially losing their AI definitely indicate that the title could have used some more time to get polished. Despite this, however, it is difficult to deny just how much fun Ferocious can often be. When it’s firing on all cylinders, the game feels like an absolute power fantasy depending on how well you’ve equipped yourself, and the scale of the enemy forces. Thankfully, since all it really needs is a bit of polish, future updates will definitely end up making Ferocious a much better game than it is now.

Ferocious is the first outing from a new indie developer, and its release is right around the corner. If you’re thinking about buying in and exploring its dinosaur-infested island, these are 15 important things you should know beforehand.

Ferocious is shaping up to be one of the most intriguing indie shooters in years—a pulp-style, dinosaur-filled FPS that blends survival mechanics with a surprisingly narrative-driven structure. Instead of following the typical open-world survival blueprint, Ferocious focuses on handcrafted environments, guided objectives, and set-piece encounters that still leave room for player agency. With a first-time indie developer and a release date just around the corner, you’ll want to know what you’re stepping into. Here are 15 things to know about Ferocious before purchasing and exploring the ambitious dino island for yourself.

Premise

Imagine this: a game where you’re shipwrecked on a mysterious island crawling with dinosaurs. Not exactly an untapped premise, but Ferocious twists it on its head in subtle ways. While a majority of games with this set-up take on a survival sandbox structure, Ferocious leans into storytelling and a linear progression. Your missing brother is just one of the narrative threads guiding the game’s intriguing setting. A dinosaur island with emotional stakes? Count me in.

Dinosaurs, Mercenary Gangs, and Mechas, Oh My

The variety of dinosaurs are one of the game’s principal attractions, but they’re not the only threat you’ll face on the island–far from it. You see, The island isn’t nearly as abandoned as you first believe. There are other people lurking about, mercenaries as well as military personnel with drones at their disposal. When you aren’t running for your life from towering prehistoric creatures, you’re taking cover in the middle of tense shootouts against para-military agents and even bi-pedal mechs (yes, this game has mechs).

Controlling Dinos To Attack Opponents

That said, it’s possible to use some threats to your advantage, particularly the island’s dinosaurs–at least, some of them. Using dino control device on certain dinosaurs will bait them into attacking human enemies hunting you down. Aside from dinos fighting by your side, they can sniff out items in the environment and bring them to you, adding a strategic layer to some battles. Oh, and that blocked passageway or locked door? No problem for a dinosaur under the dino control device’s influence.

A Variety of Species

Ferocious features a wide range of dinosaur species. Some graze the fields and tend to themselves while others are instantly hostile (ferocious, you might say). Not every dino can be controlled though, and plenty aren’t capable of being defeated (at least by conventional means). Ferocious takes a more creative direction when it comes to dinosaur designs. They’re said to resemble our real-life conception of dinosaurs, but not to an scientifically accurate degree. The dev team stresses the fun element of dinosaurs above accuracy, so expect some wild designs fit for an imaginative video game.

Not Open World

These dinosaurs and mech encounters aren’t strictly scripted, but they don’t roam around a huge open-world either. The island is segmented across a half-dozen districts—open-ended zones with clear boundaries. The game also has more linear main objectives than one would come to expect from the ‘stranded island’ premise. The structure is directly influenced by classics like early Far Cry and Crysis 1, blending freedom with more directed objectives.

Five Unique Biomes

There are five distinct districts across the dino-filled island that have been confirmed so far. You begin on the coastline, a tutorial area with some secret coves and boisterous weather. And then there’s the labyrinthian canyons, lowlands, grassy plains, and even a jungle. Each area has a unique level design ethos which changes up gameplay.

Obstacles and Terrain

One of the creative ways the studio seeks to change up gameplay is through obstacles. One example of this is using dinosaurs to open paths. There’s also some environments that must be destroyed in order to advance through, such as thick vines. I’d be surprised if there weren’t a good amount of environmental puzzles scattered throughout the island.

Semi-Destructible Environments

Destruction isn’t just limited to set-piece obstacles. Grass can catch fire and weak cover will get destroyed during firefights. The team has made it a priority to make the environment feel dynamic through its destructive qualities, though given the limited budget, not everything is fully destructible. Weather is a part of that dynamic equation as well. The island will see rainfall, heavy wind, as well as a day/night cycle, though weather doesn’t have any survival mechanics involved, as the studio has pointed out.

Environmental Storytelling

Environments also help tell the story. The studio made it a point to ensure the island feels like a lived-in place with prior history. Abandoned camps and mysterious ruins of lost civilizations are said to be featured. Expect to find cryptic journal entries dotting the nooks and crannies as well.

Weapons and Combat

The studio wants to feature 12 guns at launch. Unlike the liberal interpretation of the dinos, the guns here are rather historical and will be familiar to any FPS enthusiast. There’s your standard handguns like the 9mm and on the desert eagle on more powerful end. There’s SMGs like the MP5, AK assault rifles, Remington shotguns, sniper rifles, and a flamethrower to light windswept plains ablaze. In addition to guns, throwable objects like grenades, as well as melee knives are available to use on the island’s hostile denizens.

Upgrades

You’ll want to pay close attention to gun durability since weapons degrade over time and may even get jammed. Upgrades are also a major component to the gameplay of Ferocious. Though the studio has made it clear that silencers aren’t in the game due to the de-emphasis on stealth. But attachments such as laser sights, folding stocks, and scopes can be freely equipped across various guns.

Single-Player

There doesn’t have to be a lot of balancing involved in customization thanks to the total lack of multiplayer in Ferocious. This is a conscious decision, as the team is laser-focused on delivering a narrative-driven FPS campaign, albeit with some more open-ended survival elements sprinkled in.

Indie Studio

Speaking of the studio, they are an indie team composed of just a handful of devs. They’ve brought in a Far Cry veteran along with designers from the film and theme park industries, helping carve out a strong visual and thematic identity for the island.

Runs on Unity

To my surprise, the game runs on the Unity engine. It looks like a AAA production with the realistic weather and destructible environments, so it’s very impressive what they’ve done with such a small team and limited budget.

PC Requirements

And it shouldn’t take the most expensive PC in the world to run as a result, though you will need a fairly beefy rig to get the most out of Ferocious. The minimum specs are very reasonable, hovering around an aging but reliable Intel i5 (or AMD equivalent), 12 GB of RAM, and a GTX 1060 or RX 580—hardware many PC players probably already have lying around. But if you want Ferocious to truly shine, with its weather effects, dense foliage, and destructible cover pushed to the max, you’ll want to step up to something closer to an i7 or Ryzen 5 3600 paired with an RTX 2060 or RX 5600. Either way, the game remains modest in storage demands at around 25 GB, making it refreshingly lightweight for a title with such ambitious visuals.

There’s no word on a price for Ferocious, but we don’t expect the $69 tag due to the indie scale of the project. This dino island FPS adventure releases real soon, December 4th to be exact, and it’s available on PC with no console plans at the moment.

A charming jankiness welcomes those who enjoyed cult classics like Gothic, but this open-world fantasy action RPG offers little else.

Lackluster lip-synching, stiff animations, odd cuts between dialogue – Of Ash and Steel isn’t exactly making the best first impression during its opening hour. The fact that the opening camp, which is where you’ll first gain control of protagonist Tristan, involves walking around and completing generic fetch quests, also doesn’t inspire much confidence. Did I mention the iffy audio mixing, where an NPC’s voice is as loud and booming, even when you’ve moved several feet away from them?

That being said, through all the grime and relatively medieval way of life, there is something here. It’s reflected in some of the writing, whether you’re dealing with an NPC who’s injured by wolves and needs healing or double-crossed during a quest. Even the combat, slow and plodding it may be at first, has some appeal (not a lot but still). Is any of this enough to elevate Of Ash and Steel beyond its means, much less cater to those seeking a Gothic-like? Sort of, but there are plenty of other problems that need addressing before it can reach its full potential.

The story takes place in the Kingdom of the Seven, a set of islands enjoying an era of peace and sea trade. Things take a turn, however, when rumors spread about islands seemingly going independent. None of that really initially, your character, Tristan, a cartographer who embarks on a mission with soldiers of the Order to chart Greyshaft. Shortly after landing, however, things quickly take a turn when brigands assault the camp, slaughtering everyone in sight. Tristan is the only one left alive, but is also assailed and left for dead.

"It also doesn’t help that a good chunk of the island’s hostiles can easily take you down, especially when facing more than two at a time (most bandits are a no-no in the early going). For the first 90 minutes or so, I found the best way to survive was to simply kite enemies towards NPCs that were capable of killing them."

Discovered by one of the locals and nursed (somewhat) back to health, he begins exploring the island, and from here, things get a little more loosey-goosey. Of Ash and Steel doesn’t really confine you to a single path, instead encouraging you to explore and get a feel for the world, but without any actual tools to really chart a path (at least initially). You’re basically blind, which makes sense lore-wise, and there are no markers to indicate where you should go next. If you’ve been duped and a quest step involves finding the perpetrator, a waypoint won’t magically lead you to their location. Getting down in the dirt and exploring the island’s caves, abandoned mines, farms, and more is the key, and you’d better have the good sense to remember where things are.

In that sense, Of Ash and Steel is reminiscent of Hell is Us, but with way fewer clues. It’s also a lot more unforgiving. Tristan, despite his prominent abs, isn’t skilled at fighting whatsoever and has the lung capacity of a newborn kitten. He also lacks many survival skills, not that you unlock them by simply leveling up. Instead, you have to talk to various NPCs and learn from them, which requires gold, the required skill points, and the correct stat. Stat requirements also apply to weapons, so even if you find a cool claymore, good luck wielding it without the required 15 Strength.

Other immersive mechanics abound, such as managing hunger and thirst, which means cooking ingredients to sustain yourself with meals and drinking liquids to remain refreshed. Cooking some random meat won’t always agree with Tristan, leading to debuffs which can reduce melee damage. In the same vein, you can accrue injuries which become worse if not tended to. Want to make a campfire out in the wilderness? Better have some supplies on hand. In that sense, the starting hours can feel like a slog.

It also doesn’t help that a good chunk of the island’s hostiles can easily take you down, especially when facing more than two at a time (most bandits are a no-no in the early going). For the first 90 minutes or so, I found the best way to survive was to simply kite enemies towards NPCs that were capable of killing them. If it works, it works, but as Tristan’s strength and stamina grew (those two rings that boost the latter also help), I became that much more sure of his capabilities.

"And while I mentioned that some of the conversations can be quite endearing, a lot of them aren’t, and it all loops back to Tristan as a character, who feels exceedingly bland. Maybe it’s because he’s meant to be more of a self-insert, but the charm wears off after the first few hours…"

If you’re expecting something akin to Dark Souls or even Kingdom Come: Deliverance, Of Ash and Steel isn’t that, even given the importance of stamina. Attacks are more deliberate – even following up with another strike feels like Tristan is stuck in molasses. And while it can make for some initially tense encounters, especially against other human enemies as you parry their blows and look for openings, hit registration can be iffy on both sides. The same goes for targetting, as some of the quicker enemies can easily evade your blows before Tristan is even done executing them.

Don’t even get me started on the annoying AI – one battle against a clearly stronger spider saw them simply escaping before I could kill them, with no sign of their location. Later, it returned to its cave, fully healed and suffice to say that I’m not suffering that tedium again. I’m also not a fan of Tristan’s uncanny ability to slip in puddles. Once in a while, but every single time, even twice in a row during life-or-death fights? No thanks.

Also, while I’m fine with the old-school approach to exploration, the world itself can sometimes feel overtly barren. Towns and the like are an exception with different NPCs to chat up and requests to take on, but the wilderness is far from compelling. Some areas are laden with food and materials, while others, like the abandoned cave with the killer spider, offer nothing. Is it realistic? Sure, but with how generic some of the environments can feel, it doesn’t exactly reward my urge to explore.

And while I mentioned that some of the conversations can be quite endearing, a lot of them aren’t, and it all loops back to Tristan as a character, who feels exceedingly bland. Maybe it’s because he’s meant to be more of a self-insert, but the charm wears off after the first few hours, and he just doesn’t have much substance. Thus, even after he suffered traumatic events and was left to fend for himself, any sympathy is simply replaced by an ever-present feeling of “Sucks to be you,” especially after he trips in a puddle for the umpteenth time.

"Maybe it can shine if its various weaknesses are addressed, but even then, its storytelling, protagonist, world design, and gameplay feel ever-so slightly above average."

If you don’t really care about what happens to him and simply favor a brutal adventure that won’t hold your hand on a large scale, Of Ash and Steel might be of interest. However, the lack of polish is still problematic, whether it’s sleeping bodies floating in the air or the previously mentioned hit registration. There are also several bugs, including Tristan’s voicelines overlapping if you spam a command numerous times, and a campfire that just wouldn’t let me cook, even though a similar one did.

Presentation-wise, it doesn’t look too bad at all, but the facial animations take away from the immersion quite extensively, which is all the more problematic given the number of dialogue exchanges. The music is acceptable – again, nothing too special for the genre, but it’s serviceable enough, even if I don’t think some of the epic tones match the plodding action.

Of Ash and Steel is geared primarily for those who enjoy the likes of Gothic, where carefully considering your build and skill unlocks is as important as deciding whether to tackle a group of seemingly harmless enemies. Maybe it can shine if its various weaknesses are addressed, but even then, its storytelling, protagonist, world design, and gameplay feel ever-so slightly above average.

Attempt to escape a mysterious island while bypassing dinosaurs or use a device to manipulate them into working for you.

So Deathground may not have been it for Dino Crisis fans craving some form of dino-slaying action, but there’s a light at the end of the tunnel. OMYOG’s Ferocious, a single-player survival shooter with dinosaurs, launches on December 4th for PC.

Announced in 2023, the story revolves around overcoming an island teeming with dinosaurs (and the odd mercenary or two). While navigating the terrain and managing your resources is essential, there’s also a “dino control device,” which can be used to manipulate the dinosaurs to fight for you.

Interestingly, they can also acquire items from a distance or even bypass different obstacles. It even takes into account how some species will more readily yield to your manipulation. Does that mean you should approach that massive Tyrannosaurus Rex and turn them into your personal mount? Well, no. It’s worth a try, though.

Check out some more gameplay for Ferocious here. Publisher tinyBuild has yet to announce the price, so stay tuned for more details.

Redemption Road Games and TinyBuild might be on to something with a premise that's as unique as they come, working well with a gameplay loop that could be what RTS and action fans have always dreamed of.

We were quite taken aback to learn of a video game in which you bring an arsenal of modern weaponry into a battle against medieval soldiers. But the idea has since grown on us, and we’re now pretty excited to try out Kingmakers, an action-strategy title from Redemption Road Games.

If, like us, you’re intrigued by its absolutely insane gameplay loop and premise, you might want to know more about the game before deciding to take the plunge and buy this game. Well, we’ve put together a list of things you might want to know about the game.

Let’s dive in!

1. From The Future, With Love

The insanity starts with the game’s narrative! You’re a special operations expert sent back in time to 1401 to the Welsh Rebellion, an interesting time period that saw England, Wales, and Scotland embroiled in a series of clashes thanks to the self-proclaimed Prince of Wales.

You’re going to interfere in order to ensure you prevent an apocalyptic event in your own timeline. It’s a typical isekai narrative, with time travel elements thrown in to ensure that you’re a force to be reckoned with on the battlefield, or a commander without comparison outside of it.

2. Choose a Side

You can fight for either England, Scotland, or Wales in the main story with multiple endings tied to your choices. Are you going to attempt to quell the rebellion or support it? Perhaps you’re thinking of playing both sides to meet your own ulterior motives? It’s all up to you, and the game is likely to feature quite a few twists and turns as you progress through its main campaign.

That’s good news if you’re the type who likes a bit of replay value from their games, and with a premise like this one, that’s quite a draw.

3. Your Perspective, Your Playstyle

Do you like to get into the thick of the action and unleash your modern weapons against hapless knights, soldiers, and cavalry units? That’s certainly on the cards.

Or do you prefer to hang back and direct your troops from afar, showing off your strategic chops in the process? Go right ahead.

You can seamlessly switch between both perspectives, choosing between action and Real Time Strategy in, well, real time. It’s a gameplay loop that could have you very involved with how your army behaves on the battlefield, and you could choose to turn the tide yourself if your plans go awry. That’s modern warfare in the past for you.

4. Troops That Are More Than Cannon Fodder

Redemption Road has been quite enthusiastic about dynamic AI systems that react to the battle and influence the decisions, pathfinding, and even the loyalty of troops in the field. While they haven’t elaborated on how that works, we’re pretty certain you can expect soldiers to lay down their arms if you overwhelm their formations, or perhaps have to fend off ones who attempt to flank your own forces if the opportunity presents itself.

Your own troops and officers could attempt a few tricks of their own, and managing the battlefield is sure to be both challenging and rewarding in equal measures.

Whether you’re in the field or at your command post, things could get quite heated in the blink of an eye if the studio plays its cards right.

5. Battle Tactics

While the thought of tearing through enemy troops with your assault rifle sounds like you’re going to be invincible on the battlefield, Redemption Road has ensured that things are not going to be as easy as they seem. Your enemies adapt their tactics, choosing to swarm you with superior numbers and removing the advantage that your arsenal affords you and your troops.

Expect resistance irrespective of the weapons and tools you carry with you, and always stay on guard for intelligent attempts to sway the momentum of the fight away from you while you direct your troops.

6. You And Whose Army?

If you find that controlling massive armies a tad too taxing, you could bring a few buddies along in multiplayer co-op that supports up to four players. We shudder to think of what a well-coordinated unit of the best action players can achieve with modern weaponry, and the devastation they could bring to the battlefield if their opponents have nothing but swords, shields, and spears to wield against them.

The best of you could get very creative with your unit’s setup, and we can’t wait to see what you come up with once the game is in your hands.

7. The Right Tools For The Art of War

The game’s premise gives you the scope to wield a wide range of weapons like assault rifles, shotguns, grenade launchers, and so many more against troops whose arsenals seem almost negligible in comparison. While it’s one of the main draws of the game, we’re quite curious to see how those battles play out, and how the armies of the past manage to respond effectively to the weapons of the future. It’s an idea that is both ridiculous and fascinating, although the game’s trailers point towards it being executed (pun intended) very well.

8. Wheels Up!

If fancy guns and weapons weren’t enough, you also get to drive armored SUVs, bikes, attack helos, call in air strikes, and even drive a convertible into battle. Talk about arriving in style!

But jokes aside, vehicular combat could very well be another facet of this insane gameplay loop that could very well bring the whole experience together. Perhaps you could go into 007 mode and assault a fortress in the fanciest car that money can buy. Or take a tank if you prefer function over form.

9. Drawing The Line

This one’s pretty amusing despite the disappointment it brought us. The devs have said that they toyed with the idea of a giant mech tearing up the battlefield at one point, but ultimately changed their minds as it was a challenge to sustain the balance they had created. We kind of agree, as the thought of a metal monstrosity assaulting hapless soldiers who poked at it with their swords sounds too far-fetched, even for Kingmakers.

We would have liked to re-enact a modified version of our favorite battle from Star Wars, but it is what it is.

10. A Path to Fame and Fortune

It was kind of inevitable that a premise as unique as the one Kingmakers brings to the table has drawn the attention of studios in other entertainment media. Popular studio Story Kitchen is already working with Redemption Road and publisher TinyBuild to bring a live-action adaptation of the game to the silver screen.

We just hope that the movie is a faithful recreation of the insanity we’re about to witness once this one hits the shelves.

11. Kingmakers Is Just Getting Started

And we mean that literally. Early access opens on October 8th, 2025, while the developers have already excitedly discussed potential additions to the game ahead of its full and final release. There’s going to be flamethrowers, drones, and so much more, allowing you to devise very creative ways to bring misery to any who dares to oppose you in your mission to save the future.

12. Crossplay and Consoles

There’s hope that console ports for the PS5 and Xbox Series X|S are in the game’s future, with the developers stating that it’s something they would like to do and are actively pursuing. It does make sense to bring Kingmakers to as many platforms as possible, allowing more players to join in on the fun and perhaps build a thriving community around the game and its insane premise.

13. Modest System Requirements

Another feather in Kingmaker’s cap is that its excellent visuals do not come at the price of a high-end setup. As per the Epic Store, it’s going to need Windows 10 64-bit and an Intel i5 10th Gen processor and 8GB of RAM alongside an RTX 2060 GPU, DirectX 11, and a whopping 80GB of storage.

The recommended specs bump up the CPU requirement to an Intel i7 10th gen, and an RTX 3070. While these may be changed in the run-up to the game’s full and final release, they’re a sign that players whose rigs might not be fully up to date can still join in on the fun.

And that’s a wrap on everything you need to know about Kingmakers.

Redemption Road's ambitious third-person shooter/strategy has been delayed just five days before the launch of early access.

Five days before its early access launch on PC, Redemption Road announced another delay to Kingmakers. However, it didn’t offer a new release date and instead apologized while explaining the reason for the delay.

“In short: It’s an incredibly ambitious, uncompromising game, and we don’t want to cut any planned features, for the sake of getting it out the door earlier. Our goal, from the start, has been to create something that’s nothing like anything else on the market, in terms of gameplay, scale, scope, and interactivity.”

The developer noted that it’s pushing Unreal Engine 4 to its “absolute limits” to achieve 60 frames per second on mid-range PCs without needing “fake frames.” “We currently have tens of thousands of soldiers, each with AI and pathfinding that rivals what you’d expect from a AAA third-person shooter. When you walk away from a battle, it continues to play out. Nothing is faked.”

It provided other examples of interactivity, such as lumber mills that could become spots of combat or broken trees collapsing and hitting any soldiers in the way. Players are also “free to explore” the giant map on each server, whether it’s alone or with “their own personal army of thousands.”

“We set out to do all of this, with full drop-in/drop-out 4 player multiplayer support, and we have. We just need a bit more time on content polish before we feel good about charging money for it.”

While there are already shouts of “The Day Before 2” on Steam, Redemption Road has promised a half-hour deep dive on the gameplay “very soon,” complete with a “comprehensive overview” of everything the team has worked on. Stay tuned for more updates and a possible new release window in the coming weeks.

Announced last year, Kingmakers is a third-person shooter/real-time strategy game where players use modern weaponry in a medieval war setting. Between annihilating hordes of enemy soldiers, they can also command their own army from a top-down view.

Ferocious revolves around the player trying to survive and find their brother after getting shipwrecked on a dinosaur-filled island.

Developer OMYOG and publisher tinyBuild have released a new trailer for upcoming shooter Ferocious. The title, which has players taking on dinosaurs with conventional weaponry, was originally announced all the way back in June 2023, and the new trailer finally gives us a glimpse at what its story will be about. Check out the trailer below.

The core crux of the story in Ferocious revolves around the player getting shipwrecked on a remote island that was seemingly left behind by the passage of time. The island is teeming with prehistoric creatures that were long thought to have gone extinct, including not only dinosaurs, but also other creatures like giant crabs that can kill a human in a single swipe of their claws.

Throughout their time on the island, the player will be in contact with an unnamed woman who is seemingly trying to help them. This character notes that the animals that the player faces aren’t the biggest threat on the island. Rather, more dangerous is the presence of Manifesto—a shady corporation that is seemingly armed to the teeth with high tech weaponry, and has several bases all over the island. While their goals are currently unknown, the protagonist isn’t interested in fighting them; he just wants to find his brother and escape.

Along with the main story setup, the trailer for Ferocious also gives us a look at some bits of gameplay, including the fact that the player will seemingly be able to befriend some of the smaller dinosaurs that they encounter. Players will have access to a wide arsenal of weapons as they take on the forces of Manifesto, as well as some of the more hostile wildlife that they encounter.

During the course of a fight, players can also make use of the ecosystem around to, for example, lure in a giant triceratops to wreak havoc on a Manifesto base while the players themselves sneak around, enemy soldiers being completely oblivious to their presence.

Along with revealing all of this data, the trailer has also confirmed that players can try the game out for themselves thanks to a beta that is available on Steam. The demo has been available since last month’s Steam Next Fest, and has already been quite popular, with the studio noting that some players even played it for more than ten hours.

When Ferocious was originally announced, the studio had noted that its biggest influences for the title were classic monster movies like King Kong and Jurassic Park. The game, as noticed by the trailer, also takes quite a bit of inspiration from the earlier Far Cry titles in how it gives players quite a bit of freedom to take on challenges.

The studio has also previously noted that there is a lot of focus on realism in Ferocious, especially when it comes to gameplay aspects like survival mechanics. Players will likely have to make sure that their wounds don’t get too bad as they also take on challenges with limited resources and plenty of stealth.

The latest trailer showcases co-op, where up to four players can engage in absolute mayhem and even command their own troops.

Redemption Road Games’ Kingmakers, an unorthodox shooter/strategy title where guns meet medieval warfare, finally has a release date for early access. Unfortunately, it’s been delayed to October 8th for PC, previously scheduled for Q2 2025. Fortunately, players can look forward to co-op.

As showcased in the latest trailer, up to four players can battle together, commandeering various vehicles and spreading death. Best of all, other players can command their own armies, leading to massive conflicts of unprecedented scale.

An array of weaponry is showcased, from shotguns, rocket launchers and AK-47s to explosives and swords. And while you could ride a tank or motorcycle into battle, nothing is stopping you from going in on horseback.

Of course, the strategy side is still essential as you fight alongside and command thousands of AI soldiers. Between battles, base-building and managing your kingdom are also key. Stay tuned for more details and gameplay en route to its early access release.

The Hello Neighbor franchise has never enjoyed the sort of critical reception that its fascinating core premise has always had the potential for, though clearly, it has been successful enough that tinyBuild keeps coming back to it. Another new instalment has, in fact, now been announced.

tinyBuild has officially announced Hello Neighbor 3, another survival horror stealth experience that fans of the series will find familiar. Players will return to the town of Raven Brooks once again, and you can expect it to be as unsettling as every.

Like its predecessors, the game is going to be heavily systemic, with each resident of the town having a unique personality and the entire town being fully simulated in real time. Player freedom will be emphasized, and finding creative solutions to problems will be encouraged. Check out the first developer diary for the game below for more details on what to expect.

Hello Neighbor 3 is currently announced only for PC, and there’s no word yet on when it will release. Stay tuned for more details in the coming weeks and months.
