Which of these dormant franchises would you want to see return most?

Every gamer has their own mic drop surprise trailer moment. Mine, and many others, was the first Final Fantasy 7 Remake reveal during a PlayStation State of Play back in 2015. That feeling of your favorite childhood game getting the royal treatment with the best of modern technology is unparalleled. Of course, some remakes or sequels don’t feel as magical and pure as the original, but we all want to experience the hype regardless.

Sequels and remakes are tricky to get right. It can be hard to preserve the charm and quality of the original in a follow-up. It can be even tougher to surpass and iterate on what the first game did so well. Some games are just absolutely begging to be expanded upon with a new entry, and it’s those that we’ll be highlighting here. Each of these titles represents a ‘what if’ that gamers are hungry to see happen one day, but whether due to corporate meddling or cancellations, they still seem so far away.

So with that, here are the ten games whose surprise trailers would make the community absolutely lose it.

Days Gone 2

While the odds of a Days Gone sequel remains unlikely, Sony Bend has managed to stir hype thanks to the game’s April 2025 remaster. with its remaster. Days Gone Remaster finally smooths out the original’s rough framerate while enhancing its visuals with better shadows and 4K resolution. That release reignited hope for a sequel, but those hopes were eventually crushed when Sony Bend posted a job listing seeking someone with “experience with multiplayer game development and design.” The studio has a history of outright dismissing any possibility of a sequel in the past as well, but demand remains high, and where there’s demand, there’s money. Knowing Sony, it wouldn’t be completely implausible to eventually see a Days Gone 2 in the future, especially if fans remain vocal about it.

The Saboteur 2

Remember Pandemic? No, not the 2020 one, the studio that brought us Destroy All Humans and Mercenaries Playground of Destruction. The Saboteur was their last game before being dissolved into the rest of EA, and it had a lot of unique things going for it. Sure, it followed the Ubisoft open-world design ethos, but the WWII France setting and the mechanic of restoring color to liberated districts stood out. Now imagine how cool a sequel with top-notch voice talent and an actually compelling story would be. With EA’s enormous budget and the creative potential of that setting, a Saboteur 2 could finally give us a GTA-style game set in WWII Europe, but it’s a long shot at best.

Uncharted 5

The last time we ventured into the world of Uncharted was 2017’s spin-off starring Chloe and Nadine. Lost Legacy seemed to be paving the way for the next generation of Uncharted with its more open-ended exploration and, well, lack of Nathan Drake. Of course, Nathan’s story isn’t necessarily over following the ending of Uncharted 4. Like Indy coming out of retirement in the latest Indiana Jones films, Nathan can be called for one last globe-trotting adventure. Uncharted 5 is rather likely to happen at some point. Naughty Dog has been working on a project led by Uncharted writer Shaun Escayg for years now, and it’s not Intergalactic. It’s unlikely we’ll see Uncharted 5 before Intergalactic releases, but we sure hope to see it at some point.

Bloodborne 2

Is there any video game sequel more craved than Bloodborne 2? Bloodborne is the one gigantic Sony-owned IP that somehow just keeps getting overlooked. The Last of Us got numerous remasters and even Days Gone just received one. What is Sony waiting for? Well, one thing’s certain: if Bloodborne 2 were announced, it would be the only game capable of rivaling GTA 6 in sheer hype. Here’s hoping it avoids the multiplayer-heavy direction of FromSoftware’s recent projects and instead doubles down on the slow-burn, atmospheric exploration that made the original Bloodborne unforgettable.

Titanfall 3

Titanfall 3 occupies the same heartbreaking territory as Bloodborne 2: everyone wants it, yet EA refuses to greenlight it. The first cancellation came in 2019, when EA halted development in favor of Apex Legends, chasing the booming hero-shooter market and its lucrative ongoing revenue. Then, earlier in 2025, The developer had to shutter their planned Titanfall extraction shooter due to layoffs. What made Titanfall 2 so special was its well-paced and wildly inventive single-player campaign. It’s probably the last significant FPS campaign that I can think of that wasn’t a Doom title. It’s still not an impossibility that the developer gets a legitimate opportunity to make Titanfall 3, but a major shift in EA’s priorities needs to happen first.

Sleeping Dogs 2

This one’s more of a pipe dream than others on this list. Sleeping Dogs is a very popular cult classic for a reason; it oozed personality and was a genuine counterpart to GTA. Unfortunately, the development studio, United Front Games, shut down in 2016. The main developer still holds the rights to the Sleeping Dogs IP, though, so maybe there is a snowball’s chance in Southtown for it to happen. The studio’s MMO spin-off, Triad Wars, took place within the universe of Sleeping Dogs. launched briefly in open beta but was quickly shut down after poor reception. But imagine a thoroughbred sequel to Sleeping Dogs, one that wasn’t a sloppy MMO, but a single-player game with a more intricate Hong Kong map filled with fully realized martial-arts combat propelled by modern processing power. A proper Sleeping Dogs 2 could be incredible.

Metal Gear 1 Remake

“I FEEL ASLEEP!!” Imagine that iconic line from the 1988 NES version of the original Metal Gear (first released in 1987) being fully voiced in a modern, high-fidelity remake. Unlike polished and cleaned up script of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake, I’d want Konami to preserve the hilarious botched translation of the original. It would both honor Kojima and provide some charm to the game. Of course, the fully blown HD graphics and character renderings would probably make those lines extra awkward, but hey, that’s what makes the series so lovable, right? The good news is a remake of the original Metal Gear isn’t impossible. Konami has shown a willingness to remake classic Metal Gear Solid titles faithfully. And what better candidates than the very first games from the ’80s?

New Dino Crisis

Forget a new Dino Crisis—I’d settle for a remaster or a full remake of the first game. Oh, who am I kidding, I want a new Dino Crisis, sigh. The developer sits on the most beloved dormant IP, barely acknowledging series that fans have begged to see return. Who doesn’t want a new Mega Man (especially Legends), Breath of Fire, or of course, Dino Crisis? Dino Crisis—a 90s survival-horror game —never grew past its more action-oriented 2003 third entry. But fans still swear by the first game, which followed the classic Resident Evil formula in a Jurassic Park-inspired setting. A modern-day game firing on all cylinders would do justice to the original Dino Crisis if RE 2 and RE 3 Remakes are anything to go by. But just imagine what they could do with a completely new entry with the mature horror and first-person perspective of, say, Resident Evil 7.

A New inFamous

Continuing the trend of studios sitting on a golden goose is Sucker Punch and their dormant inFamous series. There was a time when a new InFamous game was the talk of the gaming town. It was a series about open world parkouring around realistic city-scapes. But one element that sets inFamous apart is its Karma system. You can choose your morality in these games, something that shows itself in the powers you unlock as well as key story decisions. With today’s more advanced processing and capabilities, the potential of that system is enormous. Imagine branching storylines, deeper morality-driven powers, and immersive-sim-style world reactions. Heck, just adding more customization elements based on morality would be awesome. But Sucker Punch will need to step away from Ghost to make it happen—and it’s unclear when that day will come.

Sekiro 2

Finally, we have another FromSoftware juggernaut that’s been left alone since its release. Unlike Bloodborne, Sekiro never even received any DLC. None. We all kinda applauded their restraint at the time, but after some years away, it’s hard not to wish the game had gotten an expansion or two. Out of all the Fromsoft games, Sekiro takes the cake for having the most awesome combat. Its very focused and specialized, leading to more intricate and precise controls. Sure, Sekiro didn’t have a lot of playstyles to choose from, but that focus is what made the limited style so polished. A sequel could expand your playstyle selection pretty significantly, and without sacrificing the original’s polish. The core combat system is already built—they’d just need to expand the build options a bit. Fans would love to see it, but as many know, Hidetaka Miyazaki isn’t fond of sequels. So while Sekiro 2 would be a dream come true, we shouldn’t expect it anytime soon.

Respawn Entertainment's franchise tore down boundaries and delivered an incredible competitive experience. So, where's the sequel?

I still remember it like it was yesterday. After killing any buzz for the Xbox One beforehand, Xbox’s E3 2013 presentation promised it was all about the games. And to be fair, there were quite a few – Ryse: Son of Rome, Sunset Overdrive, Forza Motorsport 5, Quantum Break, and various third-party titles like Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt.

However, the one release that arguably generated the most buzz is the same that closed the show—the multiplayer trailer for Respawn Entertainment’s Titanfall. The setting, the movement, the little details, and most importantly, the Titans. Hearing the words “Standby for Titanfall” still gives me chills more than a decade later.

And say what you will about the iffy “story” mode (which was no replacement for a proper campaign), lackluster post-launch support, the challenge grind, the paid map packs, or how it should have also been released on PS4. Titanfall was a masterpiece, combining high-skill ceiling movement and combat with a beyond-cool premise to deliver a multiplayer experience like no other. Even if you weren’t looking to hit the highest Pilot Generation, playing Extraction was a wondrous experience that felt organic and exciting.

Given the sales ambiguity and how quickly its player base fell off in the first year, there wasn’t much hope for a sequel. And yet, Respawn Entertainment would reveal Titanfall 2 in 2015, addressing nearly every single complaint from the original. It boasted an incredible single-player campaign that’s still one of the best in the genre. It revamped player and Titan progression, giving the latter more personality and strategic options. New weapons, cosmetic customization, maps, modes, execution animations – the list went on. Even the Smart Pistol was relegated to being a Boost weapon instead of a regular tool.

Again, there were some flaws, but once again, Titanfall 2 was special. So it’s a shame that Electronic Arts once again screwed the franchise over by dropping it close to the release of Battlefield 1, never mind Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare launching a few weeks later (yes, even if it was Infinite Warfare).

Since then, Respawn has trailblazed its own path, particularly with the acclaimed Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order and Survivor. It also made serious bank with its take on the battle royale formula, but no matter how many tie-ins and connections it made, it couldn’t replace the feeling of boost-jumping, wall-running, and calling down Titans.

A recent rumor gave fans some hope for the series return. Leaker Yorotsuki, who seemingly has a history of leaking news for the series, alleged that Titanfall 3 is in development with a reveal at this year’s The Game Awards and a release in 2026. Another leaker, Osvaldatore, apparently corroborated the same, and more details emerged shortly after about it featuring a single-player campaign and several modes from Titanfall 2, though the main mode was apparently an extraction shooter.

Before anyone could really process all of this and whether Electronic Arts was to blame for ruining yet another beloved formula, Giant Bomb’s Jeff Grubb quashed the rumor, noting on the Power Block, “It’s not real.”

“There is a Skunk Works team headed up by Titanfall 1 director Steve Fukuda…he’s got a small team over there that is probably messing around with games that have Titans in them, right? Titanfall 1 creator over there, messing around with the small team, prototyping stuff the way Respawn has traditionally done.

“Does he have something that’s a prototype that has Titans in it? I would guess so. I don’t know for sure, but I would certainly assume that that is a safe thing to think. Now, is that gonna get announced in 2025 and released in 2026? No way.” And that’s even if Fukuda’s project or whatever it ends up becoming even gets off the ground.

This is far from the first rumor about a new Titanfall. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier reported that a single-player spin-off was cancelled in 2023. There was also news last month from former executive assistant and production coordinator Emilee Evans that an “unannounced incubation project” had been cancelled. This same team was set up several years ago and meant for developers with experience in multiplayer shooters. The safe assumption is that this was another such project, though whether it was the next Titanfall or not is unknown.

Whether a new game is in development or not, it’s still reasonable for fans to wonder: Where the heck is Titanfall 3? It’s beloved among the fan base, and given the downturn that Respawn’s battle royale shooter has seen, it wouldn’t be the worst idea to bring it back.

Unfortunately, there are several potential reasons why that may not happen. Electronic Arts could very well look at the overall success of Titanfall 2 and decide it’s not worth pursuing a traditional competitive shooter, that too, one that doesn’t feature your usual live-service elements. And even more unfortunately, in this age of extraction shooters, hero shooters and Fortnite, it’s likely not going to greenlight a game like Titanfall 3 if it follows the same formula as its predecessor.

Keep in mind that Titanfall 2 already featured some of those elements – the Titans were already hero-like in their design – and even received more support than the first game. Even if EA launched it at the worst possible time, there’s no way it looked at the game’s success and decided it was worth investing in a sequel.

If Titanfall 3 were to adopt other more popular shooter elements, there is a chance that it could be worth playing if it retains that signature gameplay feel. However, the problem, yet again, is EA looking to monetize it, much like it did for Respawn’s battle royale shooter, and squeeze as much revenue as possible. And given that it’s discussed a 2.0 version of the latter rather than anything remotely resembling a sequel to Titanfall further dashes our hopes.

Maybe it’s down to the multiplayer shooter fans want more games like Valorant, Fortnite, Marvel Rivals, Battlefield, Call of Duty or even Overwatch 2. Maybe the time isn’t right for the Titans to return, though it’s always faced competition, even before many of those games existed.

Regardless of how much sense it makes financially or whether it could find an audience, there’s no denying the appeal of a new Titanfall. I still have fond memories of grappling around, jump-shotting and sliding into enemies, or climbing on a Titan’s back to dismantle it, never mind skeet shooting ejecting pilots out of the air. Maps like Airbase, Lagoon, Smuggler’s Cove, Boomtown, and Crash Site were so much fun to play – the balance of elements for both Pilot and Titan traversal and combat is still a triumph to this very day.

There may be other shooters out there to pursue – as evidenced by all the resources and development teams that EA is throwing at the next Battlefield. But maybe the genre needs a game like Titanfall 3 to shake things up and prove that it’s not all about following the latest trends or trying to bleed your audience as much as possible. It may be impossible, but stranger things have happened in the gaming industry.

Tired of long-winded games that demand dozens of hours of playtime? These 15 titles get right into the action with little downtime.

For all the talk about massive games full of dozens of hours of side content, titles that mostly avoid all of that deserve some appreciation. We’re talking about games that get straight to the action with any pretense or extensive exposition, providing hours of fun at a constant clip. Check out our 15 picks for these “all killer, no filler” titles.

Cocoon

Akin to Inception but with more otherworldly bug-like…things, Cocoon eases you in delicately enough with its world hopping, power unlocking, and puzzles. However, beyond the halfway point, you’re suddenly dealing with earth-shattering bosses, ascending through multiple levels of worlds while carrying others on your back and leveraging portals to enter and exit. It’s an experience unlike any other, delivered in roughly five to six hours and leaving you with more than a few questions when it’s over.

There's a host of first-person single-player games that are fantastic but haven't received the attention they deserve.

Dozens of new games hit shelves every year and it is hard to keep up with every release. Sometimes, a great game comes along and there’s simply no time to play it. This is the fate of quite a few first-person single-player games that deserve more attention than they’ve received. If you’re looking for unique first-person games to play on your own, this list has got you covered.

What Remains of Edith Finch

There are quite a few games disparagingly labeled “walking simulator” due to the lack of action present. What Remains of Edith Finch proves that “walking simulators” don’t have to be boring and they can present some of the best examples of video game storytelling.

What Remains of Edith Finch tells the tale of the titular Edith Finch who visits her ancestral home and uncovers the terrible events that led to their deaths. It’s a game that packs an emotional punch, and there’s a lot of tragedy to process. For a unique gaming experience, this is a title not to be missed.

Intuitiveness, immersiveness, mastery, satisfaction – there’s a whole host of reasons why shooting guns is amongst the most popular activities in gaming.

There’s more to first-person shooters; it isn’t exclusively guns. For a first-person shooter to be regarded amongst the best it needs to showcase other elements such as evocative, well-designed settings within which to battle, or harbour engaging stories with meaningful characters. Away from multiplayer, single player campaigns are the best way for FPS games to demonstrate these other integral elements. So, here’s 15 FPS games with great campaigns that display great settings and stories alongside shooting.

Halo 2

You could make a case for any Halo game featuring on this rundown – Halo 3 for its gameplay, Halo 4 for its writing and character development, Halo: Combat Evolved, where it all began. But Halo 2 gets the nod here because it has all those standout elements but additionally its easily the most varied in terms of locations visited, with each locale itself superbly designed. The introduction of Arbiter Thel ‘Vadamee as a playable character not only put new weapons into our hands, but greatly expanded Halo’s lore too, presenting deeper purpose underlining Covenant motivations.

Despite playing second fiddle to Sony's PS4 throughout its lifespan, the Xbox One had some pretty great games. Check out 30 of them here.

When Microsoft replaced Sega as the third major console manufacturer, very few could have predicted the rise (and stall) of Xbox. Say what you will about the Xbox Series X/S, but the brand has seen some excellent titles. Despite starting on a controversial note, the Xbox One era shaped up quite well, with various exclusives and some noteworthy triple-A blockbusters. Let’s look back on 30 of the Xbox One games of all time.

Red Dead Redemption 2

It’s incredible to revisit Red Dead Redemption 2, especially in light of the greedy re-release of the first game. The attention to detail, visuals, presentation, pacing and characterization are still on another level after all these years. The Van der Linde gang’s agonizing fall was a compelling story, told from the perspective of Arthur Morgan, an incredible protagonist. That’s without experiencing all of the activities and stories the world offered when you weren’t skipping baths for several days or committing dishonorable acts.

We celebrate the long history of first-person shooters with a rundown of 30 of the best games that this genre has to offer.

The first-person shooter genre is one of the oldest in the medium of video games, yet it remains extremely relevant and popular to this date. Over the last three decades or so, fans have gotten the opportunity to experience a ton of amazing games of this ilk and this feature is a celebration of the best of the best. So, join us as we run down 30 of the best first-person shooter games of all time.

Resident Evil Village

The Resident Evil series has seen its fair share of remakes in the form of the stellar Resident Evil 2 and the disappointing Resident Evil 3, but it has consistently delivered high-quality follow-ups. These include Resident Evil 7 and its follow-up Village, the latter of which represent the best of what the series offers. Resident Evil Village majestically swerves from one kind of horror to the next without any hiccups, and the action keeps pace with the changing scenery and shifting mechanics. The core gameplay of shooting down zombies is much faster than Resident Evil 7, but it retains the heft and groundedness of a survival horror game that comes together to make it one of the best in its class.

Respawn apparently worked on Titanfall 3 for quite some time before deciding to make Apex Legends instead.

Former Titanfall designer Mohammad Alavi has revealed that Titanfall 3 was actually in development for quite some time before Respawn decided to pivot into developing battle royale game Apex Legends.

“Titanfall 2 came out, did what it did, and we were like ‘OK, we’re going to make Titanfall 3‘. And, we worked on Titanfall 3 for 10 months in earnest. We had the tech for it, and multiple missions going,” Alavi said on The Burnettwork while talking about his career.

According to Alavi, development, while still early, had gotten far along enough that the studio also had playable versions of Titanfall 3. Alavi describes these early versions as “good, if not better” than what Respawn had worked on before. He did, however, state that the improvements were more incremental, and it wasn’t really bringing anything new to the franchise.

Alavi talks about seeing the success of the then-new PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, and the studio deciding that it needed to pivot into developing a battle royale game of its own.

“We came back from break and we talked about it, and we were like ‘yeah… we need to pivot’,” Alavi said. “We literally cancelled Titanfall 3 ourselves because we were like ‘we can make this game and it’ll be Titanfall 2 plus a little bit better, or we can make this thing which is clearly amazing’.”

While calling Titanfall 2 his “crowning achievement”, Alavi states that the team pivoting its efforts into working on Apex Legends was the right call for the studio.

Back in April, Respawn boss Vince Zampella stated that, for the team to work on a new sequel to Titanfall, it has to be the right project at the right time, and that it doesn’t really make sense for the studio to work on a sequel just for the sake of it.

CEO Vince Zampella confirms that Titanfall 1 and 2 director Steve Fukuda is leading a "very small" team that's currently at work on a new IP.

Respawn Entertainment is fresh off the launch of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, a massive AAA release that has been highly anticipated for a while now, but given the developer’s pedigree and track record, it’s no surprise that there’s always interest in what else it has in the pipeline for the future.

The studio does, of course, have multiple projects in the works, one of which – according to multiple job listings over the last few years – is set to be an entirely new IP, and in a recent interview with Axios, Respawn CEO Vince Zampella offered some more brief details on the project’s development.

According to Zampella, a “very small,” “skunkworks” team at the studio is currently at work on the new project and is aiming “to find the fun in something new”. Interestingly, it’s also been confirmed that the project is being led by Steve Fukuda, who directed Titanfall and Titanfall 2.

The studio has other projects currently in the works as well, as it has previously confirmed, including a new Star Wars FPS and a Star Wars strategy title that’s being made in collaboration with Bit Reactor. One would assume that we’ll eventually also get a sequel to Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, while Respawn is also obviously keeping up a stream of new content and updates for Apex Legends. Unfortunately, however, it doesn’t seem like Titanfall 3 is going to be on the docket anytime soon.

We might not see a sequel to the Titanfall games for quite some time, according to Respawn CEO Vince Zampella.

The Titanfall franchise might not get a sequel for quite some time. Respawn Entertainment CEO Vince Zampella recently spoke about the possibility of a Titanfall 3, revealing that now is not the right time for a sequel to the mech-based shooter franchise.

Speaking to Barron’s, Zampella said that, for the studio to work on Titanfall 3, it has to be the right idea and the right time. Without those, according to Zampella, it doesn’t make sense for the studio to work on a sequel. Sadly, this isn’t the first time Respawn has suggest that Titanfall 3 is unlikely to happen anytime soon.

“It has to be the right thing,” Zampella said. “It’s such a beloved franchise for the fans and also for us. If it is not the right moment in time, the right idea, then it just doesn’t make sense.”

While the studio itself hasn’t announced any new projects in the Titanfall setting, rumours have indicated earlier this year that EA had cancelled a single-player project based on Titanfall.

Respawn Entertainment itself has been focusing largely on its battle royale shooter, Apex Legends, as well as the Star Wars franchise with its Star Wars Jedi series, with the most recent title, Star Wars Jedi: Survivor, out today on PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.
