The Trine trilogy seems to be heading to the Nintendo Switch. PEGI recently rated the “Trinelogy” and it’s likely that the initial three releases – Trine, Trine 2, and Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power – are included. Now the real question is when the official announcement will be made by developer Frozenbyte.

Currently, only Trine Enchanted Edition is available for the Switch. Trine 2: Complete Story and Trine 3: The Artifacts of Power will be out in the next few months. The ports aren’t done by Frozenbyte, but instead by BlitWorks, which is renowned for porting a variety of titles, like Super Meat Boy, Bastion, Don’t Starve, and so on, to other platforms.

Frozenbyte, in association with Modus Games, is currently developing Trine 4: The Nightmare Prince. The upcoming sequel is currently in development for PS4, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch. It’s currently due to release in 2019, but details on its story and gameplay have yet to be revealed.

Frozenbyte’s Trine returns but this time in the form of the Enchanted Edition which actually brings the original game to the PS4 for the first time. It’s been reworked though and now sports an excellent 1080p resolution and 60 FPS frame rate. The developer has announced a release date for the same – it will be out on December 17th in Europe and December 23rd in North America. Check out the trailer above hyping the same.

Frozenbyte CEO Lauri Hyvärinen stated that, “We’re really excited to bring the origin story of the Trine series to PS4 in a remastered format with all the goodies of its sequel. To celebrate this launch we’ve set special discounts and created a bundle of both Trine games on the PS4.”

Along with the bumped up resolution and frame rate, there will also be stereoscopic 3D support at 720p resolution with online co-op. It will retail for €12.99/$14.99 on the PlayStation Store. Stay tuned for more information when it officially releases.

Frozenbyte’s Trine debuted in June 2009 for the PC but has gone to not only have a sequel but various expansion packs as well. The good news is that the innovativeness and fun factor of the franchise has rewarded the developer with great success. Frozenbyte has recently revealed that the franchise has sold 7 million copies since the original game’s release.

As a result, the studio is making the editor tools for both games on Steam. If you haven’t experienced either game yet, you can pick up both Trine: Enchanted Edition (a remake of the first game with improved visuals and online multiplayer) and Trine 2: Complete Story for free this weekend on Steam. You can also pick up several different platforms like PS3, PS4, Linux and Wii U as well.
