God of War: Ragnarok 

God of War: Ragnarok is a bombastic experience that starts out strong, and never lets off until the very end. While the campaign itself has a lot to see and do, the endgame has a lot to love as well. The nine realms are home to plenty of tough encounters that you can try to best along with Muspelhiem which houses plenty of combat challenges as well. Furthermore, there are plenty of lore-related side quests that you can pursue after the credits roll – and many of them are unmissable for any fan of the series. And did we mention the Berserker boss fights? Well, best of luck beating them!

Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles 4 might not have been the biggest release of 2018 but it’s had its fair share of followers. In a recent post on the Sega Asia Blog which covers various discounts for Sega’s 60th anniversary, the RPG was revealed to have sold over one million units. These sales are worldwide and presumably cover all platforms.

As a return to form for the series, Valkyria Chronicles 4 is more of a tactical RPG like the very first game. Set in the same timeframe, the story is about Squad E, namely Commander Claude Wallace as he and his friends battle the imperial army. New features like Last Stand and a new Grenadier class coincide with the returning BLiTZ system.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is available on Xbox One, PS4, PC and Nintendo Switch. You can read our official review for the game here. The Complete Edition is currently available for $50 and includes all of the DLC but the base game’s price is only $30 for all platforms.

Sega has released a Complete Edition for Valkyria Chronicles 4, its latest tactical strategy RPG in the franchise. It retails for $49.99 on Xbox One, PS4, PC, and Nintendo Switch. This includes the base game and all of its downloadable content released till now.

However, there are other deals available. The base game has had its price reduced permanently to $29.99 on all platforms, allowing new players to hop in more easily. All of the DLC is also available in a single package for just $24.99. So if you pick up the base game, then you can rest assured of a decent price on the DLC going forward.

Along with emphasizing the wartime aspect of the first game, there are new features like the Grenadier class, new battleship options, and so on. The game has had several pieces of DLC since launch, including A United Front with Squad 7, The Two Valkyria, and Expert Level Skirmishes.

If you happened to pre-order Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles 4 or purchased any of its DLC till now, then you’re in luck. The remaining two DLCs, which have been delayed till now, will be given out for free. The DLCs in question are “Advance Ops” and “United Front With Squad 7“, though keep in mind that the offer only applies for those on PC/Steam.

Those who didn’t pre-order or purchase any DLC till now won’t have to worry. Simply purchase any of the previous DLC, and you’ll be eligible to receive the last two for free. It doesn’t seem like the offer applies to Nintendo Switch, PS4, and Xbox One players, but things could change in the future.

Owlboy

D-Pad Studio’s Owlboy first released in 2016 following years and years of development. Its charming art-style and believable characterization meshed well with the quasi-Metroidvania platforming it had to offer. Playing as Otis and flying through the skies to battle pirates and learn the truth about the world may not have been revolutionary but it’s utterly amazing adventure all the same.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is an excellent turn based strategy game, which came out last year, and sadly, went under the radar for most. However, there’s still time to right this wrong—Sega announced on their Twitter account yesterday that Valkyria Chronicles 4 is available now for 50% off on the Nintendo Switch eShop, bringing the price down to $30 USD ($40 CAD).

The original Valkyria Chronicles, which also came out on Switch last year, is also on sale, for 25% off. Sadly, the promotion where you could get the game for cheaper for also owning Valkyria Chronicles 4 on Switch doesn’t seem to be active anymore, but it’s is still a great price.

Both games are absolutely fantastic, with the original game having the better story, and 4 boasting better gameplay, balance, and missions design. Both games are also standalone, and so can be played independently of each other. If you have a hankering for some great strategy action on the Switch, I can’t recommend them enough.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is one of the best games I have played all year, and has instantly made me want to dig into the series more—something I am sure has happened with a whole lot of people who have been exposed to the franchise for the first time with the new game, which launched on PS4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC (previous games have been PlayStation exclusive, with the original one getting a belated launch on PC).

If you’re a new convert to the franchise thanks to the Switch version of the fourth game, here’s some good news: the original game is now available and playable on the Switch, as previously announced. It launched today, and can be bought for $20 ($15 if you own Valkyria Chronicles 4 on Switch digitally). The Switch version of the game comes with all the DLC for the original title included in it, too, so you’re getting a lot of high quality content for a very good price here.

Apart from being on Switch, the original Valkyria Chronicles is also available on PS3, PS4, and PC. Valkyria Chronicles 4, meanwhile, is out now on PS4, Xbox One, Switch, and PC.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is an incredible game. It melds multiple different gameplay types, and wraps it all up in a war story that is surprisingly heartfelt and resonant. It is also nail bitingly difficult, with its various missions and maps being more puzzles than anything else, often with only one viable strategy. Add in the constant fear of permadeath (your non major characters can all die), as well as a grading system that judges you on your performance, and the fear of not doing well, or not being able to progress through the game at all, can be a real one with this one.

I guess the good news is, a walkthrough can show you exactly how to get past the specific mission you are stuck at, by showing you what is a viable strategy that works, and/or where you might be making a mistake. Of course, do remember that it also comes with full spoilers, so be careful to not jump ahead of where you are in the story!

Gfk Chart-Track’s latest UK sales charts for the week ending September 29th are now available. To no one’s surprise, EA’s FIFA 19 has debuted in first place, and has already become the biggest title in the UK for this year. What is surprising is how first week physical sales are down 25 percent compared to FIFA 18 from last year.

The possible explanation is that more consumers have shifted to digital downloads more than expected. Digital sales are not counted in Gfk’s estimates. Then again, it’s also just likely that FIFA 19 sold worse than FIFA 18. In terms of sales breakup per platform, the PS4 version made up 64 percent of sales. Xbox One took up 35 percent, while the Nintendo Switch version accounted for 1 percent.

Insomniac’s Spider-Man has dropped to second place, but it’s already surpassed Far Cry 5 as the second best-selling title of the year. Shadow of the Tomb Raider is also doing fairly well. Though it started slow in its first week, sales are looking decent as the title drops slightly to third place.

Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy fell slightly to fourth place, followed by Grand Theft Auto 5, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, The Elder Scrolls Online, and NBA 2K18. Other notable new releases for this week included Valkyria Chronicles 4. It debuted at ninth place, with 54 percent of sales for the PS4 version. The Nintendo Switch followed up with 39 percent of sales while Xbox One accounted for 7 percent. Minecraft: Xbox One Edition rounded out the charts at tenth place.

Valkyria Chronicles 4 is now out, and it’s an excellent game that I feel everyone should look into, in spite of some minor issues. However, newcomers could feel intimidated at jumping into a game with “4” in its title— even though Valkyria Chronicles 4 actually takes place contemporaneously to the original, so no knowledge of the previous titles is needed.

For those newcomers, as well as those interested in learning more about the series’ alternate take on Europe and the Second World War, Sega has released a brand new trailer for Valkyria Chronicles 4, which catches players up with the in-universe historical context leading up to the conflict between the Atlantic Federation and the Empire that comprises the story of the game. You can watch this trailer for yourself below.

Of course, there’s far more human heart to the game than a simple war-history style overview can do justice to, but at the very least, this should be enough to pique your interest in it, if nothing else.
