2K has quietly de-listed older WWE 2K games on PC without any formal announcement, making them unavailable to buy. WWE 2K22 and 2K Battlegrounds are the only WWE games still available on Steam.

WWE games available on Steam have been de-listed by publisher 2K, along with all DLC for these games, as caught by PCGamer. While not available to buy anymore, WWE 2K17, 2K18, 2K19, and 2K20 can still be downloaded and played by those who already own the games. 2K made no official announcement about removing these games from Steam.

With the removal of the older WWE 2K games, the only WWE games available on Steam right now is this year’s release, WWE 2K22, along with WWE 2K Battlegrounds.

The removal of these games is likely related to 2K’s licensing agreements with WWE. With the professional wrestling company going through massive roster overhauls on an almost-yearly basis, it is likely that several of the de-listed games’ roster members are no longer covered under the licensing agreements between 2K and WWE.

WWE 2K22 has been the most well-liked game in the franchise for a while now, and for more details, you can check out our review where we gave the game a score of 8 out of 10. The game is currently going through its post-release cycle with regular DLC releases and game updates.

WWE 2K17, last year’s entry into the annual wrestling franchise, will be launching on PC at last- 2K today announced that the game will be available to PC owners next month, on February 7. The PC version of the game will be identical to the console versions as far as the content in the game goes- though of course, it will be graphically better looking.

A WWE 2K17 standard edition, and a Deluxe Edition will be available for PC players; a Season Pass for the game will also be sold. For wrestling game fans, getting the Deluxe Edition might be a better deal.

Regardless, if you are interested in knowing how the PC version looks, check out the first screenshots for it below. WWE 2K17 is available already on PS4 and Xbox One- you can actually check out our review for it here. And make sure to let us know in the comments section below if you plan on picking it up.

Everything you need to know about WWE 2K17.

WWE 2K17 is a professional wrestling game that is being developed thanks to a partnership between Yuke’s and Visual Concepts. The game is being published by 2K Sports. This is the continuation of what has become a long-running series. The game was produced for the PS4, Xbox One, PC as well as the PS3 and Xbox 360. This is the 18th title in the series and the fourth that carries the WWE 2K title. This is a direct follow-up to WWE 2K16.

WWE 2K17 was officially announced on May 31, 2016 thanks to a reveal trailer. At the same time the game was announced, 2K Sports announced Goldberg is a character that could be exclusively earned by pre-ordering the game. On June 27, 2016 the development team announced Brock Lesnar would be the cover wrestler for this version of the game.

On July 14, 2016, it was announced WWE 2K17 would come with the ability to purchase an NXT Collector’s Edition. This collector’s edition includes wrestling star including Apollo Crews, Nia Jax and Shinsuke Nakamura. The company also said the collectors edition would come with a lithograph designed by Rob Schamberger and signed by Shinsuke Nakamura, as well as an 8-inch collectable action figure of Demon Finn Bálor.

In addition to those features, people who buy this collectors edition were told they would also be getting a set of trading cards, and the ability to get 50% more points in NXT when playing MyCareer Mode, and the Goldberg Pre-Order Pack that was previously announced.

Story

While there are several stories that are included in the game, there is not one story that goes throughout the entirety of the game. Some of the stories that are featured in WWE 2K17 take place in various matches from the past as well as big time wrestling events. There is also the ability to set up certain wrestling matches that have never actually gone down before, though the stories in these matches are quite a bit more limited than some of the historical matchups.

There is also one mode, called MyCareer that allows players to start their pro wrestling careers from the bottom. The players are then supposed to work their way all the way to superstardom. In addition to the usual matches, there are interludes where players interact with NPCs in the game as the character they have created rises through the ranks.

Gameplay

WWE 2K17 is, as the previous games have been, presented with a third party point of view. There are several gameplay modes that are offered in the title and some of the modes are only offered in specific versions of the game on specific platforms.

Custom soundtrack and Create-a-story designer are only available on the older generations, on the PS3 and Xbox 360. Create-A-Video, Highlight Reel, and Create-A-Victory are features that are only available on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. There are several features that are only offered on the PS4, Xbox One and PC. Create-A-Video, Highlight Reel, and Create-A-Victory are three of these. There is also the ability to take fighting into the stands on the PS4 and Xbox One. There is also the ability to fight backstage that is only offered on current generation consoles and the PC.

There are essentially five different modes players of WWE 2K17 users can play. The first mode is essentially the quickplay mode. There isn’t much story or setup when players choose to go through this mode.

MyCareer is the mode that allows players to create a professional wrestler from scratch. Once a character has been created, players are encouraged to try and get that character to become one of the most popular and more successful wrestlers in the federation. There are matches to win as well as situations you will need to navigate through that will get players to where they want their character to go.

WWE Universe Mode is the newest mode to be offered in WWE 2K17. This mode would be considered a kind of GM mode in other sports games on the market. When playing this mode, users are able to direct when, where and how massive events such as the weekly Raw, Smackdown, and NXT episodes. Players are also supposed to be able to control how much drama and who is going to face off in these events.

Creations mode is a way for WWE 2K17 players to create and personalize their very own WWE star. In addition to the look of the wrestler, players can change up the offered move sets, entrances, championships, arena, videos that come along with the wrestler when players going into a match, and victory scenes. All of these can be changed and loaded into the MyCareer mode or just played in one of the other modes and then changed however many times the player wants.

The Online Mode is WWE 2K17’s multiplayer mode. This is where people who have tired of squaring off against NPCs can go online against other human players.

Roster

WWE 2K17 rolled out who was going to be included in the game’s roster bit by bit. When the game was first announced, John Cena and The Ultimate Warrior were the very first characters that were announced for the game. Over the course of the summer, 2K Sports revealed there would be more than 150 past and present wrestling stars included in the game.

The development team has said there will be even more wrestlers, as many as an additional 11 wrestlers will be allowed to be inserted into the game by people who purchase various DLC packs. A large roster of the wrestlers that are in WWE 2K17 are known as of October of 2016 though other names will only be revealed when those DLC packs are released throughout the year and into 2017.

Note: This wiki will be updated once we have more information about the game

Taking the 'E' out of WWE.

The WWE games of today are a far different beast than the WWF games of old. Instead of the arcade fighting game fun that the old video games aimed to offer, WWE 2K17 attempts to be more of a realistic simulation than anything, trying to treat its source material with the same reverence or respect that any other sports game on the market does its sport.

In a sense, this is an admirable and noble goal- why shouldn’t one attempt to craft a wrestling game with some weight, after all? But on the other hand, the attempt rings hollow. WWE stands out for world wrestling entertainment, and that’s the key word there- these matches and fights are all about scripted narratives showing larger than life characters duking it out against each other in physical combat. WWE isn’t a sport, it’s abut entertainment and fantasy- trying to make a simulation out of that completely and entirely misses the point of what WWE ultimately is about- great big fun, without the accountability that legitimacy would otherwise hold it to.

"WWE 2K17 attempts to be more of a realistic simulation than anything, trying to treat its source material with the same reverence or respect that any other sports game on the market does its sport."

The ironic thing here is that WWE 2K17 seems to be self aware inasmuch as the nature of WWE itself goes- one of the things the game tasks you with doing every match is to make it as entertaining as possible, which is here simulated by a 5 star rating system. You get higher ratings for making a match more dramatic. In gameplay terms, this can mean something as simple as varying up your moves and not spamming something over and over again, but it also means that the game rewards you points for last minute reversals, close comebacks, and hotly contested matches. If an opponent has you pinned down, and you wait until the very last second to throw him off, that nets you a higher rating than just doing it right away will- even though in an authentic fight, you want to get your opponent off of you as soon as possible. But WWE is about entertainment, not authenticity. Which is why so much of this game rings hollow.

The actual moment to moment gameplay perhaps best exemplifies this. It’s slow, it’s weighty, and it lacks the energy of the older WWF games. The sad part here is that for what it is, WWE 2K17 actually works quite well- there are reversals pin downs, submissions, counters, and there are even taunts- but every action feels slow, almost like in Dark Souls, where there is a deliberate heft and windup and follow up animations to everything.

This works counterintuitively to how you might expect a WWE game to work. Making matters worse is the fact that the game does a poor job of conveying its mechanics to the player. There is no tutorial in the game that I could find, no Controls option in the Settings menu where I could at least check, if not set, the controls, and no way for me to know what I should be doing. The game tries to teach you some of its more arcane mechanics by stopping the action in the middle of a fight during your first few matches, and popping up text telling you how a contextually relevant mechanic is supposed to work. But the text is poor at explaining things, and all this does is break the flow of the game.

There is a sort of tutorial in the MyCareer mode, but that basically involves the player creating a custom wrestler and then playing through a blank slate story- again, antithetical to what most players want from a WWE game, which is to fire it up, pick up your favorite wrestler, and then duke it out in the ring. The good thing is, the mechanics generally work well, and are consistent, too- as an actual nuanced fighting game, there’s not a lot to complain about here. It’s just that, there’s a major disconnect between how the game plays and what it aims to portray.

"There’s a major disconnect between how the game plays and what it aims to portray."

In other ways, though, WWE 2K17 tries to stay authentic to its source. There is a staggering variety in the kinds of matches available, from 1v1, 2v2, cage matches, royal rumbles, and more. The announcers sound authentic, the matches themselves frequently leave the ring, and everything from chairs and tables to the backstage itself often ends up being used as props, and the announcers and music all gives the game a very WWE flavor. The game feels WWE through and through, with my one major complaint here being that it doesn’t quite look good enough- it feels like a late stage PS3 game at best, and its graphics often break the illusion of authenticity that the game is trying to sell.

In other places, there are other things to do in WWE 2K17– there’s an elaborate MyCareer mode, which allows you to create a custom fighter (that you can then use in other modes too), and use it to progress through a wrestling story and career of your own. This mode is a bit of a damp squib- the presentation is poorest here, and none of the grandeur that you may associate with a mode that lets you write a story for your own wrestling character is present.

The puzzling thing is that a mode that did let you relive some of the best WWE stories, 2K Showcase, is simply not present here. 2K Sports say that’s because its omission let them focus on improving the Career mode, but if that’s true, then I shudder to think just how bad the career mode was before.

"It feels like a late stage PS3 game at best, and its graphics often break the illusion of authenticity that the game is trying to sell."

In the end, I’m not sure how to feel about WWE 2K17– there is no question that I am disappointed, though I also have the sense to recognize that a lot of my disappointment comes from what I expected this game to be, based on my experiences with previous WWF games, and with WWE itself. But even with that being put out of the equation, there is little doubt that this game disappoints in more ways than one- the lack of a proper tutorial, the terrible career mode, and the shockingly shoddy presentation all drag this game down from being even what it has decided to be, which is an authentic and legitimate wrestling game. The core gameplay loop is fine, and there’s some enjoyment to be had with this game’s more measured take on wrestling, but… even for what it is, WWE 2K17 is ultimately a disappointing game that falls short.

This game was reviewed on PS4.

A complete guide for WWE 2K17.

WWE 2K17 is now out, and this year’s update to the long running wrestling game series offers a whole lot of fighters on the roster, a lot of modes, and no shortage of things to unlock. As is the case with any sports game, the game revels in its authenticity, and in offering fans and players a whole lot of things to do. So many, in fact, that it can be hard to know exactly where you should begin.

That’s where we come in. In this WWE 2K17 Mega Guide, we cover everything- from Special Modes to unlocking everything, from match types to a submission guide, from and from earning currency quickly to some of the Achievements and Trophies, this guide has it all.

Let’s get down to it.

Special Modes:

There are two special modes in WWE 2K17, with 2K Showcase having been excised this year in favor of these two. The two special modes that are playable in WWE 2K17 are:

MyCareer

WWE Universe

How To Unlock Everything:

As is the case with just about any sports game, WWE 2K17 present you with a shit ton to unlock. It can take forever to actually get around to having everything in the game be available to you, especially if you are just stumbling around in the dark.

But you don’t have to do that. The video below will walk you through unlocking everything there is to unlock in this game.

Match Types:

WWE 2K17 subscribes to the ‘throw in everything and the kitchen sink, too’ mentality when it comes to the sheer amount of match types on offer. There are over 40 different match types that are available in 2K17, available across every kind of matchup conceivable. The sheer, staggering amount of options available ensures that no matter what kind of match you want to play, WWE 2K17 will have you covered.

Submission Guide:

WWE 2K17 brings back the submission system from last year, that relied on analog stick inputs- but it also introduces a new one to the mix, which involves, for lack of a better term, button mashing. No matter which submission style you choose to go with, though, you’ll want to keep the following tips in mind- they’re going to help you to get your opponent to submit:

Target the opponent’s limbs! This is the first, and most basic, thing you need to do if you’re going for a submission

Deplete the opponent’s stamina bar- if not, then they can still wrestle free of your grip when you have them pinned down

Use multiple submission moves! This is the best, and easiest, way to get that win

How To Get A 5 Star Match To Earn Virtual Currency Quickly:

Having currency on hand always helps, of course- it means you can buy more things. One of the fastest ways to have more currency on hand is to participate in 5 Star Matches. These tips below will help ensure that every match you are in is a 5 Star one:

Let the opponent beat you up and pin you down. Pull out of the submission at the last minute- this kind of thing tends to excite the crowds

Perform Signature moves, Finishers, and OMG Finishers

If you can use weapons, use weapons

Use the ring properly- jump from the ropes, pin the opponent against the cage, dive, and more

Don’t just repeat one move- use a varied litany of moves to get the crowd excited

Basically, be dramatic, be flashy, and be showy. The more dramatic and showy your matches are, the higher your chances of your match being 5 Star, and the more VC you get.

Ready your wallets - October will be a deluge for high profile releases.

The holiday season is upon us and that means lots of triple A games. Seriously, if you were worried about your wallet taking a beating before, then you haven’t seen anything yet. Let’s take a look at 10 games to play when October finally rolls around.

Mafia 3

Between Nam, losing his surrogate family and swearing vengeance on the Italian mob, Lincoln Clay is quite the busy killer in Mafia 3. Set in New Bordeaux, inspired by late 1960s New Orleans, Mafia 3 features a large open world full of rackets to break up, vehicles to hijack and criminal dens to infiltrate. With its GTA 5-esque cover system and huge assortment of weapons, Mafia 3 promises a compelling criminal caper – one that could see you entertain or exterminate your fellow partners. It’s out on October 7th for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Gears of War 4

Fenix is back but it’s JD instead of Marcus that’s the focus. Gears of War 4 takes place several years after the third game and between an oppressive government and The Swarm, the world has seen better days. The set piece heavy moments of the series return along with new weapons and characters. Multiplayer brings free-ish DLC and Gear Packs for various benefits but all you should know is that Horde mode is back and that’s all that matters. Gears of War 4 is out on October 11th for Xbox One and Windows 10.

WWE 2K17

While the WWE 2K games fall somewhere between entertainingly hilarious and shockingly poor, we’re still looking forward to WWE 2K17 when it releases on October 11th for PS3, PS4, Xbox One and Xbox 360. MyCareer mode has seen some major revamps, introducing Brock Lesnar as a major part of the story, while promos can now be cut during various interludes. There’s even a meter to indicate how well your promo engages the crowd. Gameplay additions include a new secondary submission system and the return of backstage brawls.

Shadow Warrior 2

Lo Wang is now Cyber Wang. Up to four players can decimate a future overrun by demons with quick movement, chainsaw katanas and akimbo-style gun wielding in Shadow Warrior 2. Customization, abilities, loot, random generation, increased movement possibilities – there’s a lot to unpack in the sequel. Thankfully, it still features procedural limb chopping. Who doesn’t love that? Shadow Warrior 2 arrives on October 13th for PC.

Battlefield 1

War is hell and in Battlefield 1, war has gotten a lot more…sandy. World War 1 is the newest setting as players control different factions across brand new maps. Head to Sinai Desert and lockdown various control points while avoiding sandstorms and armoured trains. Battle in the new Operations and War Pigeon mode, the former acting as a multi-round match and the latter involving pigeons (it’s cooler than that, we promise). Battlefield 1 is out on October 21st for Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

Civilization 6

It’s a new Civilization and people already hate it. What’s new, right? Civilization 6 has garnered quite the backlash already for its art style but we’re not complaining. The 4X title will introduce city “unstacking” as you manage various districts within your metropolis. A Civics tree is also being introduced to allow different paths to victory to be more viable. Watch out for it on October 21st for PC.

Titanfall 2

The tech test may have been mixed but Titanfall 2 just looks better and better the more we see it. Attrition will be making its return while comprehensive looks at the cosmetics and weapons make us even more excited for the possibilities. Titanfall 2‘s movement has also been further sped up, more intriguing maps (including the return of Angel City) have been showcased and the wait till October 28th is slowly becoming torturous. It will be out on Xbox One, PS4 and PC.

The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim — Special Edition

The Dragonborn rises again in The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim Special Edition. Don’t expect new content as Skyrim Special Edition packs together the base game, Dawnguard, Hearthfire and Dragonborn into one comprehensive, graphically updated package. Improved textures and effects can be expected but Skyrim Special Edition will also bring mods to the Xbox One version (sorry PS4 fans). PC players will receive a free upgrade for owning all previous content which offers even more incentive to revisit Skyrim on October 28th.

World of Final Fantasy

Look, we get it – chibi characters aren’t everyone’s cup of tea. But there are plenty of reasons to be excited. Aside from mixing together several signature Final Fantasy worlds, cameos from characters like Lightning, Tidus, Vivi, Squall, Cloud and many more can be expected. World of Final Fantasy at this stage seems more like a celebratory title but if the Active Time Battle and Mirage mechanics hold up, it could be a dark horse when it arrives on October 21st for PS4 and PS Vita.

Rez Infinite

Of the many VR titles releasing with PlayStation VR, we have to go with recommending Rez Infinite. Besides its eclectic music and gameplay style that look made for VR, Rez Infinite is one of the more underrated games of the Dreamcast/PS2 era. We may not get a full body feedback suit but we’re more than happy to dive into Rez Infinite when it releases on October 13th.

That's a staggeringly long list...

WWE 2K17 is almost here, and just ahead of its launch, the entire roster of playable WWE stars and fighters has been revealed- and as can be expected, it’s a huge list, with all your favorite (and not so favorite) fighters having made it in.

A fair few of these fighters are actually just going to end up being DLC or pre-order bonuses, so people who jut pick up a copy of the game for some wrestling action are probably going to find some of these names missing. But on the whole, you should be pretty happy with the selection of games on offer here.

WWE 2K17 is going to launch on October 11 for Xbox 360, Xbox One, PS3, and PS4. You can check out the complete playable roster of fighters in the game below (via TheXboxHub).

In its favor, 2K claim to be focusing on the modes that are fan favorites.

We already knew that WWE 2K17 would have a fair number of substantial changes from last year’s game – 2K Sports had been promising us that, after all – but we didn’t imagine that one of those changes would be the removal of the Showcase Mode entirely. And yet that’s what has happened.

“One of the largest and most difficult decisions we made for WWE 2K17 was to forego building a 2K Showcase,” 2K said in an update on their website. “We designed and contemplated several Showcase ideas, including options surrounding our cover Superstar, Brock Lesnar, but all of them were not viable due to the many historic WWE Superstars needed but not available for inclusion in the game. In addition, the team is heavily focused on building and delivering great content that fans can enjoy for years to come, while the Showcases only live in games from year to year. In all, we didn’t feel good about creating a Showcase that was not up to our standards and current development vision, so we decided to take that effort and put it into modes our community requests we keep improving: WWE Universe and MyCareer.”

That does, in their defense, seem to be the only omission they have made this year, and it sounds like everything else has been improved, from the way they are talking about it, falling in line with their justification for removing the Showcase Mode. Still, though, that’s probably not going to be much comfort to fans of the mode who may have been looking forward to playing it this year.
