Nintendo Switch players will no longer be able to share content directly on to X/Twitter through the system's media album.

Nintendo has released a new firmware update for the Switch, killing the console’s Twitter/X integration. As part of the update, Nintendo Switch players will no longer have the option to share things to Twitter directly from the console.

Options like “Posting to Social Media” in User Settings, and “Post to Twitter” from the Album on the Nintendo Switch home menu have now been completely removed. The social media integration for Friend Suggestions in the My Page section has also been removed.

The update was primarily focused on removing the integration with Twitter/X, with the changelog only mentioning general improvements without going into details. Check out the complete patch notes below.

While Nintendo itself hasn’t provided a reason for its discontinuation of Twitter/X integration, it likely has to do with the fact that the social media platform has been charging companies to use its API, which would allow the integration. According to Wired, companies like Sony and Microsoft were being charged roughly $42,000 every month to keep the integration on PS5 and Xbox.

With this update, the Nintendo Switch has now joined both the PS5 and the Xbox Series X/S in no longer having integration with the social media platform.

Nintendo Switch Update 18.1.0 Patch Notes:

The following updates were made for the discontinuation of X (formerly Twitter) integration:

The option to “Post to Twitter” when sharing from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu was removed.

The ability to post Super Smash Bros. Ultimate screenshots from the Album in the Nintendo Switch HOME Menu to Smash World in the Nintendo Switch Online smart device app was removed.

The option to link X (formerly Twitter) from “Settings” > “User Settings” > “Posting to Social Media” was removed.

The option to link social media accounts from “My Page” > “Friend Suggestions” was removed.

General system stability improvements to enhance the user’s experience.

Nintendo's bringing a host of upcoming Switch titles to Gamescom.

As Gamescom approaches, high profile video game publishers are announcing the lineup of the games they will be bringing to the event in Germany from August 21st to August 25th one after another. Capcom recently confirmed a pretty impressive presence with some exciting games, with THQ Nordic also promising a few surprises, while Microsoft are looking to one-up everyone with a total of 25 games at the event.

Nintendo have now also revealed their own lineup for Gamescom 2018, and it’s pretty solid. They’ve confirmed eight upcoming Nintendo Switch titles that will all be playable at the event, and it’s looking like a good mix of exclusives, multiplats, first party titles, and third party titles.

The most prominent of these has to be Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, which was recently announced at E3 2018 and was playable there as well (and also at the recently held San Diego Comic Con). Also included in the lineup is Super Mario Party, which was also announced at E3. Meanwhile, another big title they’re bringing with them is the Nintendo Switch version of Dark Souls Remastered- hopefully they will be announcing a release date for it soon.

Meanwhile, Dragon Ball FighterZ, which is also going to be launching on the Switch pretty soon, is going to be present at the event as well, as is FIFA 19, which should be interesting if more info is released on stuff that will or will not be included in the game’s custom made Switch version. Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes is also part of the lineup, and hopefully we’ll finally get to see some meaty gameplay footage.

In addition to those, Killer Queen Black and Ubisoft’s Starlink: Battle for Atlas – which will feature Star Fox as an exclusive Switch-version character – will also be part of the lineup. If you want to get some hands-on time with any of these games (and find yourself in Cologne between August 21-25), head to Nintendo’s booth in hall 9.

Blocking of exploits, balance changes among massive list of changes.

While Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare has had quite a bit of success since it launched, the game’s developers have been working hard to polish it now that it’s out. Last month, the team released a massive patch that fixed literally thousands of issues players and developers had found.

This week yet another massive patch was released and it looks like yet again, the issues it is looking to address are wide ranging and numerous. Issues such as blocking exploits and re-balancing of certain weapons have been addressed.

The full list of the patch notes can be found here and it touches every aspect of the game, including more fixes for the Zombie mode. The patch appears to be covering all platforms too, as there are some issues that work on the PS4 version, some on the Xbox One and some on the PC version. Since the patch landed, have you noticed big differences? Let us know in the comments section below.

Xur certainly has stuff this week.

Destiny’s Exotic vendor Xur has returned to the Tower and is currently lounging in the bar. You can find him there till October 23rd, 2 AM PST.

This week, Xur carries the Immolation Fists (Titan gloves), Skyburners Annex (Hunter helm) and The Stag (Warlock helm), each for 13 Strange Coins. Each item has its benefits – the Immolation Fists are recommended for Sunbreaker Titans, unlocking the Explosive Pyre perk for free, while Skyburners Annex allows for Hunters to generate orbs with heavy weapon kills.

As for the Exotic weapon, it’s the hand cannon Hawkmoon. It’s signature perks allow for two random bullets to deal increased damage. Unfortunately, even at 23 Strange Coins, the nerfs to the gun’s range and stability have put it on the backburner compared to weapons like the Palindrome or Eyasluna.

The Legacy Engram this week is indeed for Year One helmets so don’t bother wasting 29 Strange Coins on one for a chance at higher level Exotics (unlike last week where Year Three Light level Exotic gloves were being sold).

Both games are on track for release this year despite lack of new details.

Nintendo hasn’t been having the best week as its most recent financial year results showed Wii U sales to be at 6.17 million units since launching in November 2012 (for a quick comparison, the PS4 is currently at 7 million units worldwide and the Xbox One at 5 million units as of April, both having been out for six months at the time).

Nonetheless, the firm has plans to bounce back. It will be showing a new 3DS NFC peripheral add-on and will expand its home console lineup towards the smartphone space in an interesting way with a Mario Kart 8 app on the way. According to CVG, two of the bigger releases for the Wii U – Bayonetta 2 and Monolith Soft’s X – are still to be released in 2014.

This is according to Nintendo’s own financial briefing and apparently both games will release across Japan, North America and Europe in this year alone. Expect some more news at E3 2014.

At their Nintendo Direct presentation today, Nintendo went through some new gameplay footage for several of their upcoming major Wii U exclusives. These included Bayonetta 2 by Platinum Games, Monolith Soft’s tentatively titled ‘X,’ Nintendo’s own Mario Kart 8, Sakurai’s Super Smash Bros., and Retro Studio’s Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze, which releases next week.

Except for Tropical Freeze, which already had a concrete release date, and Mario Kart 8, which got its rather vague ‘May 2014’ launch narrowed down to May 31 2014 none of the other titles were given specific dates, instead just being pegged for a nebulous release date some time in 2014.

Apart from the general sadness of these long awaited titles (all of these were announced a year ago, except for Bayonetta 2, which was announced two years ago, and Super Smash Bros., which was announced three years ago), the games themselves look absolutely incredible. Be sure to check out the latest gameplay footage above.

With a new year comes a new set of RPG games to cut your teeth on.

There are plenty of reasons to be excited for a new year, and plenty of reasons to celebrate as we send off the old year and bring in the new. Plenty of us go out with friends and family, to enjoy the festivities with just a bit of the warmth left from the holiday season in us.

Much of the same can be said for gaming too. While there have been some great RPG games in 2013, with a new year comes new games to play, some to share with friends and some to enjoy from the warmth of a brand new console generation. Some of the titles that are coming are continuations of a franchise, other are a fresh start with a new story. Whatever you’re into there is probably going to be an RPG in our little list that should tickle your fancy, even if it’s not coming out right at the turn of the new year, you’ll have something to look forward to in 2014.

Note: This list consists of one unannounced title.

The Witcher 3 Wild Hunt:

Gamers getting their hands on the new Witcher title is a pretty exciting proposition. Even at a glance, the game is absolutely gorgeous. The game’s gritty subject matter, just like always doesn’t seem to shy away from the more gruesome and gory bits of combat. Just like the previous Witcher titles, it’s also going to be presenting the player with a plethora of choices and decisions, from skills to quests and even dialogue. Developers, CD Projekt Red is also pretty confident in their ability to please gamers.

The PC version is DRM free and will look absolutely stunning. While it’s obviously not going to be a pushover on the new consoles, this game’s really going to shine on the PC platform, which is what the developers have intended. Be warned though, if you haven’t played any of the Witcher titles yet, go back and do so if you’re interested in this game. The Witcher 3 is the conclusion to the story arc that started in the first game and while you may really enjoy the eye-candy, you’re going to have a hell of a time following the plot if you’ve missed the first two titles. Sure, you could watch a Youtube re-cap or something like that, but where is the fun in that?

Which was our top pick for best game of E3 2013? Find out here.

Now that the hubbub is dying down and the major titles have been revealed, it’s time to take an objective step back and decide: What were the top games of E3? What were the exclusives and announcements that stuck out? Which games earned a decko but had a ways to go? Which one totally and utterly dominated the competition to stand out as THE game to look forward to when it releases? There were plenty of options and more than a few favourites that had be nixed.

Regardless, in terms of potential and the showing they had, here are our top picks. So join us as we countdown to the Top 10 Games of E3 2013.

10. Project “X”

Monolith Soft, developers of XenoSaga, Baten Kaitos and XenoBlade Chronicles – and also having a part in the classic XenoGears – are working on this game. It’s already confirmed to have mechs. What more do we need? Details, for one. But the potential is rife, and since being exclusive to Nintendo, Monolith has never failed to deliver.

9. Ryse: Son of Rome

For a game which we knew nothing about, save that it was coming from Crytek, Ryse had a lot to prove. Crytek answered by showing us gameplay and the sheer possibilities of Roman warfare and commanding a troop of soldiers in real-time. The standalone combat and set pieces have a fresh intensity to them, despite the somewhat tired setting of Rome. So if ever a game worked its ass off to earn its place, it’s Ryse. But it has a long ways to go before becoming a must-have.

8. The Order: 1886

The studios behind the game are enough to convince us of its potential. However, the environment and the fact that the demo at E3 was in real-time show that The Order could be a major player whenever it does release, and even spawn a big franchise depending on how it’s handled. Till then, we’ll admire the steam-punk meets supernatural approach of the game all the more.

7. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt

The visuals and massive scope of the game won us over when it was first announced. The tactical combat, environments and open world nature of the game have only convinced us further that The Witcher 3 will be one of the premier RPGs of the next generation. Show us more gameplay, more variety and more quests, and we’ll be helplessly hooked.

6. Mirror’s Edge

The good news: Electronic Arts has listened to fans over the very, very long years since the first game released and finally announced a sequel. The middling news: The new Mirror’s Edge is actually not a sequel and will actually be a reboot telling the origins story of Faith. The bad news: It’ll be coming “when it’s ready”. Nonetheless, the game looked excellent – and a new Mirror’s Edge has been long overdue.

5. Final Fantasy XV

For all the years in development, all the delays and rumours of changes and cancellations, Square Enix could’ve probably gotten away with a straight-forward story trailer and announcement of the name change. However, Nomura and his crew at Square Enix Osaka prepared a gameplay demonstration as well, just so we could see how the game would play out. The result? We’re looking forward to this game even more now than ever, even if it’s still nowhere near complete.

4. Battlefield 4

Commander mode, Conquest multiplayer, massive amounts of real-time destruction both in campaign and playing online – you’d think that’d be enough to make Battlefield 4 just good enough in our books. But keeping in mind that there’s still work left to do, Battlefield 4 is one of the few games to actually look like a next generation title. The addition of 64 players in a single online match of this magnitude doesn’t hurt either.

3. TitanFall

From knowing very little about the game, to seeing it in action, Respawn Entertainment’s TitanFall is easily one of the coolest first person shooters we’ve ever seen. Hulking Titans that can be piloted in one fell swoop, wall-running and jet-packing soldiers, enormous clashes of strength vs. tiny bursts of intellectual and strategic mettle – TitanFall seems so simple and yet embraces a complex multiplayer dynamic so easily.

2. Destiny

On the surface, features like integrating single-player, multiplayer and co-op together with a massive persistent online world sound tough. Then a game like Destiny comes along and makes it look so seamless and so fun, that you just can’t help but be attracted to. Count in the fact that it mixes in an impeccable sci-fi style with solid shooting and looting mechanics, and we just can’t wait to see more of the game.

1. Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain

Even before we got to the explicitly gory red band trailer, there were so many nods to previous games, so much intrigue and mystery, and yet, such a gorgeous looking display of a next generation Metal Gear Solid, both in terms of gameplay and graphics, that it’s hard not to consider Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain as one of the most anticipated titles of 2014.

The XenoGears is strong with this one.

Satoru Iwata introduced a ton of new games that will be arriving for the Wii U and 3DS in the coming months. Some of them we’re aware of, while others, like Monolith Soft’s “X”, are brand new.

Not much was showcased in the premiere trailer for the game, which can be seen above. We catch a lone protagonist walking through different settings, one of them being a dock full of mechs. Not much is revealed but we do catch a glimpse of the environments and other NPCs.

For now, “X” seems to be a tentative title for the game. We get a strong XenoGears vibe from the whole experience and considering that Monolith Soft is responsible for XenoSaga and XenoBlade Chronicles, this undoubtedly appears to be another addition to the franchise.

No release date has been set but we look forward to hearing more about “X” in the coming months. Stay tuned for more details as they arrive.
