Tekken 8 is Adding an In-Game Shop, Post-Launch Details Coming on February 20

Though the fighter launched without microtransactions, an in-game message has revealed that it'll be adding them in with an upcoming update.

Fighting games as a genre tend to be more prone to aggressive monetization than most other games, with the likes of Street Fighter 6 and Mortal Kombat 1 having served as recent prominent examples. So when Tekken 8 launched last month without any microtransactions, it came as a breath of fresh air. As many had probably anticipated though, it looks like that’ll be changing soon.

As shared by a user on Reddit, an in-game message spotted by players has revealed that Tekken 8 will be adding an in-game store, dubbed the “Tekken Shop”, soon, which is likely where players will be able to spend currency to purchase items (which, hopefully, will be cosmetic only, and reasonably priced, though often the latter in particular tends to not be the case with this genre).

More details on the shop are likely to be revealed on February 20, because as announced on Friday, that’s when Bandai Namco will be revealing new details on Tekken 8’s post-launch roadmap. Presumably, we’ll be learning more about the game’s DLC as well. Previously, Bandai Namco confirmed that the game will be getting four DLC fighters in its first year. Fan-favourite Eddy Gordo will be the first to arrive this Spring, but for now, that’s all we know about the post-launch lineup.

In our review of Tekken 8, we awarded it a score of 9/10, saying, “Tekken 8 is a shot in the arm for the series, advancing the story while offering addictive combat, exceptional presentation and a suite of features to attract new and experienced players.” Read the full review through here.

Tekken 8 is available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC. It has sold 2 million units worldwide since its release in late January.
