The Forest is a very unique, extremely atmospheric, and surprisingly engaging experience that blends the survival and horror genres very deftly, to deliver a lonesome yet memorable experience. Ever since its launch on Steam Early Access back in 2014, it’s been the recipient of a lot of high praise from those who’ve played it, right up until its full launch on PC earlier this year.
That reception seems to have paid off, because as per a press release recently sent out by developers Endnight Games, The Forest has now sold 5.3 million copies ever since its initial 2014 launch. According to the press release, the game was made with an initial budget of $125,000 (though that figure must have changed significantly in all the years of development that followed), which makes The Forest “one of the most successful independent game releases of all time”.
The Forest recently launched on the PS4 as well (just yesterday, in fact), so those figures are bound to go even higher. Plus, there’s chance that Endnight Games might bring it to the Xbox One as well. If you’re wondering about how the game will look and perform on the PS4 (or the PS4 Pro) in comparison to the PC version, you can check out a specific bit pertaining to that from our recent conversation with Endnight Games through here. Additionally, you can also check out the full interview if you’re interested.
