Ever since the announcement of HBO’s television adaptation of The Last of Us, questions have been asked by many and often about who will be cast in the central roles of Joel and Ellie. Those questions have now been answered, with actors for both roles having now been confirmed.
As reported by Deadline, Joel will be played by Pedro Pascal. Pascal gained popularity for his portrayal as Oberyn Martell in Game of Thrones and his starring role in Narcos. Currently, he stars as the titular protagonist in The Mandalorian, while recently, he also played the antagonist in Wonder Woman 1984. Meanwhile, The Hollywood Reporter confirms that Ellie will be played 17 year-old Bella Ramsey, who received widespread praise for her portrayal of Lyanna Mormon in Game of Thrones.
It was previously confirmed that Gustavo Santaolalla, the composer of both The Last of Us games, would be serving in the same capacity for the television series. Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin will be co-writing and co-executive producing alongside The Last of Us creator, director, and write Neil Druckmann, while Kantemir Balagov was previously confirmed as the director for the series’ pilot.
