There’s been a flurry of leaks about The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered in the last few hours, and now, it’s been officially announced by Naughty Dog and Sony. Check out its announcement trailer below.
The Last of Us Part 2 Remastered will come with a number of enhancements, additions, and improvements over the original 2020 PS4 release for the acclaimed action-adventure title. Perhaps the most significant addition is No Return, a new roguelike survival mode that will see players tackling a variety of randomized challenges across various locations. The mode will feature multiple playable characters, skins, and more.
The remaster will also include developer commentary from director Neil Druckmann, narrative lead Halley Gross, and actors Troy Baker, Ashley Johnson, and Laura Bailey, who play Joel, Ellie, and Abby respectively. Also included are new set of Lost Levels, which are described as playable early-development slices of levels that were cut from the full game, and will come with developer commentary. “Explore these spaces and hear directly from the team about the intention of aspects of each level – this is a unique inclusion for our studio and we’re excited to allow players a glimpse into the creative process,” Naughty Dog writes.
Additionally, the game will also feature two graphics modes, with a Fidelity Mode running at native 4K, and a Performance Mode running at 1440p upscaled to 4K.Other visual improvements will include increased Level-of-Detail distances, improved shadow quality, animation sampling rate, and more. The remaster also include support for the DualSense’s haptic feedback and adaptive triggers, while Descriptive Audio and Speech to Vibrations have been added as accessibility options.
Meanwhile, similar to The Last of Us Part 1, a new Speedrun Mode is also, as well as bonus skins for Ellie, Abby, and their weapons, and new Photo Mode additions, including dynamic lighting, Frame Forward, and Gaze Direction, as well as new frame and logo options.
