That The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom would be the critical darling it turned out to be was never in any doubt, and sure enough, the open world behemoth has seen incredible sales to reflect its critical success, with over 10 million copies sold in its first three days.
It shouldn’t come as any surprise, then, that it has also been the biggest digital game on the Nintendo Switch this year so far. The same has been confirmed by Nintendo, with The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom topping recently released charts for the most downloaded Switch games in Japan throughout the first half of 2023.
Interestingly enough, Tears of the Kingdom’s predecessor, Breath of the Wild, also enjoyed a boost, coming in at No. 6. Other games in the top 30 include the likes of Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Splatoon 3, Monster Hunter Rise, Persona 4 Golden, Persona 3 Portable, Pokemon Scarlet and Violet, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Animal Crossing: New Horizons, among others.
