The Vanishing of Ethan Carter Uses Unreal Engine 4 on PS4

The Astronauts have specifically ported it over to UE4 to support a current gen release.

The Astronauts’ The Vanishing of Ethan Carter released to a fair amount of critical acclaim on PC last year and it’s slated to release for PS4 in the coming months. However, while the original game was developed on Unreal Engine 3, the studio has been busy porting it on to Unreal Engine 4 for its PS4 release.

The reasons for this, according to the developer’s official Twitter, were quite simple. “This + more mundane reason: UE3 does not support current gen consoles. Also, “porting” is a nice way to learn UE4.”

So there have it. How this will influence the game’s release window remains to be seen (since it was never officially dated for PS4) but there’s still plenty of sense in expecting a 2015 release.
