The Witness Creator Borrowed “A Bunch of Money” to Fund Development

Jonathan Blow hopes then when it's done, people will buy the game.

Jonathan Blow’s The Witness is coming along nicely but it’s requiring more than the usual amount of resources. According to the main himself, the income from Braid hasn’t been enough to fully fund The Witness’s development, leading to Blow borrowing money to finish it.

Speaking to Engadget, Blow said, “Braid still sells well on platforms that are thriving, but two of Braid’s big platforms were the Xbox 360 and the PlayStation 3, both of which are sun-setting at this point.

“Not so many people are buying digital games there, so the Braid income is not nearly enough any more to fund the team. I have borrowed a bunch of money to finish The Witness. So I hope when it’s done, some people buy the game.”

As for when The Witness will release this year, Blow said, “If there is such a thing as taking ‘too long,’ we have probably already done that.”

The Witness is in development for PS4, iOS and PC. Are you looking forward to it? Let us know in the comments.
