This year, we got the pleasant surprise that The Wolf Among Us 2 was being revived. The original game was one of the first to help popularize the Telltale style of narrative adventure. We got less pleasant surprise when it was announced that the game wouldn’t be coming anytime soon, much less next year. It seems there’s good reason for that, though, as the game basically was started from scratch.
USGamer talked to Jamie Ottilie, CEO of LCG Entertainment (the studio now managing the old Telltale catalog). There he confirmed that the game basically was being built from the ground up, even using a new engine in Unreal Engine 4, as opposed to the old Telltale engine or Unity, which the company planned to transition to after The Walking Dead: The Final Season.
While we were aware that creative leads from the first game would be coming back to work on the game, it seems that whatever technical work on the first game was either scrapped or not far enough along to actually use. We probably won’t see The Wolf Among Us 2 for quite some time due to that, but hopefully the team manages to capture a little of the magic from the first.
