We already know that Google plan to tip their hand relating to “the future of gaming” at GDC next week. We know that they have some notable talent, such as Jade Raymond, on their side. And now, we also know that they will have some notable developers present during their GDC programming, too.
The Google Developers account on Twitter confirmed that id Software (the folks behind DOOM) and Ubisoft (the folks behind every third hit game in the industry and also the former employers of Jade Raymond) will both be a part of Google’s GDC programming. This means we could maybe expect DOOM Eternal and some Ubisoft games on Google’s platform, whatever it ends up being- if there is a platform (though given that Google’s Project Stream beta was conducted using Assassin’s Creed Odyssey, Ubisoft’s support shouldn’t come as much of a surprise).
At this point, all I can hope for is that whatever Google is doing also involves a home console, and won’t just be a streaming service, because a new console just seems to be so much more exciting (and disruptive to the status quo) than a streaming service is in the immediate short term—but we’ll find out soon enough either way.
