Assassin’s Creed Unity‘s failure may have done irrevocable damage to the Assassin’s Creed brand. Syndicate, the game that followed the year after, was considered to be an actually good game, but it underperformed, and in spite of a year long hiatus, and a reboot in Origins that has been largely well received by the community in all its showings so far, Ubisoft isn’t actually expecting it to sell that well.
Speaking in their financial earnings call, Ubisoft confirmed that while they expect the game to sell better than Syndicate, they do expect it to sell lower than either Unity or Black Flag. Which makes sense- it will take time to rebuild people’s trust and faith in the brand after all. If Origins is good, maybe it can continue selling well via word of mouth, and maybe it can lay the groundwork for future games to do better.
Assassin’s Creed Origins launches on October 27 for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC. Stay tuned to GamingBolt for more coverage and information.
