Did GTA ever get a band name to change its entire name just to celebrate its release? Yeah, thought not. We had earlier reported that Union J were going to change their name to Union XY. This has now happened and we have the official quotes for you below.
In all seriousness, though, ahead of Pokemon X and Y’s release this Saturday, Union J have gone ahead and changed their name to Union XY to celebrate the new Nintendo 3DS 3D (in multiple ways) Pokemon games. The original idea for this came from George Shelley who suggested it to the rest of the band. At the press conference the official Union XY logo was revealed as the Union J logo morphed into the new one.
“We’re changing our name to Union XY, it’s amazingly cool. This is something we’re so passionate about, we’ve grown up with this and it means so much to us to be able to promote it,” said George, Union J.
The official name change will happen on October 12th, the same day as Pokémon X and Pokémon Y releases exclusively on the Nintendo 3DS line of systems. The change will be only for one day, but it’s still a pretty unprecedented cross media promotion as these things go.
