Earlier this year, one of the high points (some would argue the only high point) of EA’s E3 showing was the independent game Unravel, which looked delightful, and ended up charming the pants off of everybody who saw it or went hands on with it. The game has received a lot of good press and a lot of hype since then, because of just how strong the game’s initial showing was- for an indie game developer, isn’t that stressful?
“Of course I worry,” Unravel director Martin Sahlin said in an interview with Gamespot. “At E3, everybody fell in love with the idea. You talk about what it is, you talk about the theme, you talk about the background and people love it, and they get it. I think it’s beautiful that they do. But it’s also… it’s a different thing to fall in love with an idea and to fall in love with an actual thing. It’s easier to make a flawless idea.
“But what’s been so good is that a lot of people have played the game now: at E3, at Gamescom, and now at PAX Australia. And it’s actually working. I don’t think I’ll ever stop worrying that we didn’t do enough, but still, it feels like we’re actually reaching people. They like it. And not just because they’re having fun with it, but they also seem to connect with it, which I think is the most important thing.”
Unravel is due out some time in 2016 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
