Valve Has Games In Development They Plan To Announce, Per Gabe Newell

But no, he's not going to confirm one is Half-Life 3.

Ever since Valve crafted their PC storefront, Steam, they have largely pivoted away from their game development. Steam has been very lucrative, and it’s also something Valve has constantly kept updated. They are still making games, however, and last year saw their biggest in years with Half-Life: Alyx, a new entry in the long dormant series that took full advantage of new VR technology. Also, remember Artifact? There was also that, I guess. Now it seems the company has more in the pipeline.

Valve boss Gabe Newell recently spoke with 1 News about a variety of subjects, with the focus being on potentially seeing Esports coming to New Zealand. However, he did drop some unexpected information, saying that Valve have “games in development that we’re going to be announcing.”

He also specifically pointed to Half-Life: Alyx as showing that the company could still garner momentum with game releases. And when asked about whether one of those games was the fabled Half-Life 3, he kept it coy as always, saying, “I’ve successfully not spoken about those things for a long time and I hope to continue to not talk about them until they are moot questions.”

It’s exciting to think about, since there was a period when Valve was considered one of the biggest innovators in the industry. However, it is worth keeping in mind that there is no time frame here, and due to their need to maintain Steam, these announcements may not come for a very long time.
