Lack of availability is an issue that most hardware on the market is dealing with right now, and unsurprisingly, that’s doubly true for new launches like the Steam Deck. Valve’s portable gaming PC has got off to a solid start in terms of reception since its launch over a month ago, but availability has been limited, with pre-registered users being shipped their devices on a first come, first served basis- which, in turn, has resulted in queues stretching months into the future.
But with the momentum of the Steam Deck’s launch, Valve is preparing to accelerate things. With Q1 of 2022 having wrapped up and those who fell in that group of the handheld device’s pre-orders having received their shipments, Valve recently confirmed via Twitter that the first set of emails for pre-registered users has gone out, and that shipments are ramping up as well. According to the company, more availability emails will be sent out every week. “Sometimes even twice a week!” the tweet reads.
Since its launch earlier this year, the Steam Deck has only been available through Valve’s own supply and shipment pipelines, and there’s no word on when (or if) it will also be made available via other means, like general retail. Either way, hopefully Valve can continue to improve things on its ends.
