Valve Officially Discontinues The Steam Controller

The PC based controller will be no more.

Regardless of what you think of the company, and certainly some people have some pretty strong opinions about them nowadays, Valve has revolutionized the PC ecosystem many times over. But not all of their ideas have been hits, and one such idea was the Steam controller. And well, to prove that, it’s basically dead now.

Valve officially confirmed to The Verge that they will no longer be manufacturing the controller and are in the process of selling off the remaining stock at clearance prices (they are sold out in most regions). You can check your Steam storefront to see if any are still available.

The controller had mix reception overall, though some people were huge fans. It’s main issue was it wasn’t designed well for games designed around dual analog sticks, which were a lot of mainstream games, instead opting for a trackpad in place of a second stick. It was an interesting idea for a controller with a lot of different configurations. If you were a fan who wanted an extra or were just curious but never tried it, now is the last time you’ll be able to get them.
