Gabe Newell has revealed that Valve was pretty successful in 2012 and their business grew by 50%. Steam had also hit 6 million concurrent users last year and that is an indication that the service has come a long way since its inception back in 2003.
However, they also let plenty of people go including notable ones like Jeri Ellsworth, who was working on the Steam Box project, which is looking quite weird right now since Valve has denied that they are in partnership with Xi3. The latter also released a statement saying Valve did in fact commission them to make a box.
He also revealed that one of the Dota 2 updates was responsible for 2% of all mobile and land-based internet activity. This could be United States only and seems to be an outrageous statistic if true.
The company did make a lot of profit due to Dota 2, so he may be telling the truth but we don’t know whether they are worldwide stats or not.
He was also given the BAFTA Fellowship, and we have the video for that as well. (via Rock Paper Shotgun)
