Video Preview Released For Flashback Remake

IGN takes an in-depth look at Flashback Remake.

‘What is Flashback,’ you ask? Excellent question.

Why are they remaking it? Just listen:

Flashback is a 1992 sci-fi platformer, originally released for the Animaga system, with it’s huge success leading to release across a wide myriad of platforms, MS-DOS, Acorn Archimedes, Sega Mega Drive/Genesis and Super Nintendo to name a few. Flashback’s game play was similar to that of Prince of Persia, with non-scrolling screens, but the main differences were in the highly detailed character movement animation and the inclusion of modern weapons, such as a pistol. The story was lovingly crafted as a tribute based on sci-fi thrillers such as Total Recall and Tron.

Today a semi-in depth preview of the Flashback 2013 remake was released by IGN, and boy does it look sleek. Paul Cuisset, who was the lead developer of the original Flashback, is heading the remake effort. With Cuisset sitting in the captain’s chair and Ubisoft behind him, what we are expecting is a supped up, game play and graphic enhance mechanic that holds true to the beloved sci-fi plotline of the original.

Some other additions we can look forward to are an expanded plot with new characters, voice acting, and a brand new skill system which reportedly will throw a bit of character customization into the mix.

Flashback releases in August 2013 on both X Box Live and the Playstation Network.
