Watch Dogs 2 had been bit of a disappointment on the sales front, at least upfront- the pre-orders had been lower than expected, and then sales failed to live up to the first game, too. A lot of people blamed this on the tepid reception to the first game, which blindsided people with a lot of hype ultimately masking a mediocre game. Watch Dogs 2, better game though it was, would have to pay for the sins of the first game.
However, it seems as though sales for the game might be recovering, at least in the UK. According to GamesIndustry.biz (via NeoGAF), Black Friday discounting led to sales for Watch Dogs 2 rising during its second week on the market, with the game’s performance now tracking in line with recent Assassin’s Creed games. Of course, while recent Assassin’s Creed games have been underperformers relative to the franchise, remember that even a low selling Assassin’s Creed game is a high selling game in general.
Hopefully, the game can see a similar rebound everywhere else in the world- it’s a better game than the original, and it deserves better as such. Watch Dogs 2 is available now on PS4 and Xbox One, with a PC version due to launch tomorrow.
