Wii U is even weaker than PS3 and Xbox 360 – Report

Wii U is reportedly weaker than the PS3 and Xbox 360, according to some [unnamed] developers. So how exactly can a system be weaker than 7-year old systems [PS3 and 360]?

It is said that the tablet controller Nintendo has opted for the Wii U is expensive to produce and is straining their budgets.

“No, it’s not up to the same level as the PS3 or the 360. The graphics are just not as powerful,”  said one developer to GamesIndustry International.

We also have another developer who echoed the same thing. He said, “Yeah, that’s true. It doesn’t produce graphics as well as the PS3 or the 360. There aren’t as many shaders, it’s not as capable. Sure, some things are better, mostly as a result of it being a more modern design. But overall the Wii U just can’t quite keep up.”

This should be extremely annoying to some hardcore fans, as Nintendo has opted to go the same route they did with the Wii and 3DS, and whether it works out for them is something which remains to be discussed.

You can check out our coverage of the Wii U over here. What’s interesting here is that we’ve had three rumours so far and all seem to contradict each other – Wii U is “on par”; Wii U is stronger than PS3 and 360; and now, weaker as well. So pick your poison.

So what can you believe? Logically when you think about it – it’s very unlikely that the system will be weaker than the PS3 and Xbox 360, but it’s not looking like a generational leap.
