Carbine Studios’ Wildstar has some significant content updates coming soon but may transition into a free to play stage in the coming months.
An EB Games employee spoke anonymously on Games.on.net and stated that both EB Games and JD HiFi had been taking the MMORPG off of shelves in the past few weeks. A similar case occurred with The Elder Scrolls Online when Australian retailers began sending stock back in January 2015 ahead of the game’s announcement to go subscription-free.
Wildstar has seen middling success since its launch – while there was strong enthusiasm in the beginning, the game’s server populations began to drop in the midst of bugs, PvP balance problems, etc. If Wildstar does go free to play, it’s likely to offer any additional content updates in the form of expansions that must be paid for while the base game remains free. Perhaps the in-game CREDD currency will have uses beyond buying game time.
