If you remember, the Xbox 360 was the highest selling console in the US for the month in June. It has been commonly speculated that this was thanks to the launch of the redesigned Xbox 360 ‘Slim,’ which is also setting the charts on fire elsewhere in the world. Well, Wedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter disagrees, and believes that the 360 Slim was in fact, outsold by the older Xbox 360, which is selling at lower, discounted prices, as retailers clear out their inventories.
As per Pachter, 35 per cent were of the cheaper Arcade model, discounted by Microsoft to clear. The rest of the sales were made up of Pro and Elite units, also reduced in price.
Of course, Mr Pachter, the analyst who is never right, or very rarely so, seems to be forgetting that all stores have been almost permanently sold out when it comes to the newer Xbox 360 consoles. But then again, Pachter uses economics, so I’m sure he’s right.
