Xbox Backward Compatibility Adds Over 70 Games, Including Max Payne, Mortal Kombat, And Many More

A host of high profile and smaller titles will come in what looks to be the final batch of BC titles.

If there is one thing that Microsoft has done exceptionally well over the last few years, it’s bringing their past to their current consoles. During the middle of the Xbox One generation, the company took a big push for backwards compatibility, adding the ability to play a lot of Xbox and Xbox 360 titles, both their own first party titles as well as from third party partners. It’s been a while now since we’ve had any major additions to that service, but today we got a huge drop, even if it looks to be the last.

As announced by Microsoft, 76 new titles ranging from the Xbox and Xbox 360 will now be added to the backwards compatibility. All of those titles will support Auto HDR for those on the Xbox Series X/S, with 11 of them getting FPS Boost, and of course, many will get resolution bumps depending on your hardware. There is a lot here of fairly high profile, such as all three Max Payne titles, all F.E.A.R. games, and every Dead or Alive of the era. There’s also some smaller and more niche titles that have been lost to time, such as FROM’s Otogi titles, a pair of action titles that have tones and themes that Dark Souls fans will find familiar, and Binary Domain, a sci-fi action game from the people behind the Yakuza series. You can see the full list below.

The list of titles are live now and playable on all Xbox Series X/S and Xbox One consoles. Most will be available to buy digitally, with a few unknown exceptions. It’s also wrote noting that Xbox Backward Compatibility Lead Peggy Lo told The Verge this would also be the final batch of titles due to the licensing and technical restraints. Unless something changes, this will most likely be the final release of titles.
