Xbox Head of Operations Clears Up Xbox One, Scorpio Cross-Gen Concerns

Scorpio will "wipe out" generational boundaries.

A common concern that many have brought up with both Sony’s Playstation 4 Neo and Microsoft’s Scorpio is how the two companies will manage to support two generations of consoles, with drastically different performance envelopes. Dave McCarthy, Xbox’s Head of Operations, lent some clarity by telling Gamespot about how the Scorpio will offer developers a “seamless” experience.

This is what Dave had to say: “Listening to…feedback on Xbox One influenced our approach on Xbox One S and has influenced our appraoch to Project Scorpio overall. We really do intend it to be a seamless experience going across that ecosystem of devices, including Windows 10 as much as possible.” Thanks to Xbox Play Anywhere, your Xbox One Games will play on Scorpio and in many instances, PC.

McCarthy’s also made the rather worrying statements to the effect that he thinks Scorpio will “wipe out” generational boundaries. This could mean that console gaming could evolve along the lines of mobile, with high-end hardware quickly rendered obsolete.
