Xbox One Consoles Shouldn’t Be Plugged Into Surge Protectors, Microsoft Says

I mean, Microsoft would know better, but this sounds foolhardy to me.

According to Microsoft, if you own an Xbox One, Xbox One S, or Xbox One X, you… shouldn’t plug them into surge protectors, and should instead plug them directly into the wall socket. Which, you know, given that these machines can go as high as $500 (plus tax!) sometimes, doesn’t sound like the best idea to me. Especially since the One S and One X don’t have independent power supplies to trip a circuit if there is a voltage spike.

But Microsoft actually designed the One S and One X, so maybe we should listen to them about this, right? This information comes from the Xbox Support Twitter account, which, while talking about systems that might not switch on for whatever reason, confirmed that Xbox One systems are not meant to be plugged into surge protectors, but instead, directly into the wall. So if you’re looking to buy an Xbox this Holiday, that’s something to keep in mind, I guess.
