Xbox One Currently Not Planned to Feature Digital Game Gifting

When Microsoft introduced it’s round of controversial policies for the Xbox One – which included a venerable laundry list of horrible ideas like an always-on Kinect, 24 hour online authentication, limited used games and much, much more – the company did reveal some kind of policy to allow you to gift games to friends. This was tied into the used games policy and eventually disappeared once Microsoft reversed its stance on many policies.

But with digital game gifting having been such an integral part of Steam on PC, is it possible that the feature makes a comeback any time soon? It may be a great idea to Xbox division head Phil Spencer but there are no plans for it right now.

Spencer stated on Twitter that, “I like the featured, great part of digital, but we don’t have a plan right now.”

This isn’t to say that it will never happen but if it’s not on the current agenda, don’t expect it to pop up any time soon. Now, free games with 24 hour play periods? That may be something. Stay tuned for more information.
