In the November update for the Xbox One, Microsoft will be adding support for custom backgrounds on the Xbox One UI; the update was announced with this feature last month, and is currently rolling out to all consoles right now.
Xbox One becomes the second system of this generation to get support for custom themes, though it was the first system announced to have any such capability. The PlayStation 4 was the first system to get custom themes support with its 2.0 firmware update, although that update was so problematic in the end, it might very well have been rushed just to beat Microsoft’s corresponding update to the market. The Wii U currently has no such capability, though given that the 3DS just got custom themes in a recent update, and the Wii U itself recently got folder support, Nintendo might not be so averse to adding more such customization options to their console.
Microsoft also confirmed that there won’t be any December update for the Xbox One, although we can probably expect them to resume their monthly update schedule in 2015.
