The NPD results came out yesterday, and as is increasingly becoming the norm by this point, the PS4 kicked ass, outselling all other hardware for the month of June in America; however, Microsoft was quick to point out that while that may, in fact, have been true, the Xbox One managed to outsell the PS4 during the week of E3. Xbox One sales rose a healthy 79 percent compared to the week of E3 2014.
What exactly Microsoft is trying to prove with this, I don’t know- has it come to this, that we now cling to weekly variations for console sales to score victories? On the other hand, there is also the fact that this indicates that, relative to its base, Microsoft saw increased interest in its console thanks to its E3 conference, compared to Sony. That sounds good and all, before you remember that Sony has double the base that it is catering to to begin with, so, I don’t know where they were going with this, again.
That said, I do have to give props to Microsoft’s performance in other areas this last month- their E3 conference was great, and I really enjoy that they are listening to fans by adding features such as backwards compatibility. Hopefully, in the near future, they can keep up with the PS4’s sales performance for real.
