Xbox One Scorpio Will Be A Balanced Console, Phil Spencer Asserts

Hard numbers can only get you so far.

The Xbox One Scorpio is promised to be the most powerful console in the world when it releases next year- and indeed, the entire reveal of the console at E3 earlier this year centered around the promise of the console’s GPU, which weighs in a hefty 6TFLOPs.

However, those in game development know that there is more to hardware than numbers- and especially, more than just one number. And in an interview with the Japanese magazine Famitsu (translated by DualShockers), Xbox head Phil Spencer conceded the point, noting that the team is focused more than anything else on ensuring balance between the CPU, GPU, and memory on the console. Indeed, making the Scorpio a balanced console is the number one priority, it sounds like.

This balance, Spencer believes, will make games possible on the Scorpio that are simply not possible right now- the games that run on the Scorpio, he says, will be different from the ones that we see this year. Although, given the mandate for parity between Xbox One and Xbox Scorpio by Microsoft, it is a bit unclear as to how exactly something like that might be achieved.

The Xbox One Scorpio is due out in Holiday 2017.
