Xbox One Slim/Micro Rumour is “Not Real” – Phil Spencer

Xbox division boss shuts down rumours of a smaller Xbox One announcement in October.

Rumours had begun to emerge several days ago that Microsoft was planning to announce a new “mini” or slim version of its Xbox One console during a hardware event in October.

The new Xbox One Slim would reportedly not have a Blu-ray drive, thus reducing its form factor and cutting manufacturing costs down exponentially while being a digital-only console. It seems that said rumour may have been just that however according to Xbox division boss Phil Spencer.

Responding to a fan on Twitter who asked about rumours of a micro Xbox One, Spencer replied, “Not true.”

It wouldn’t be the first time that Microsoft said it wasn’t creating a slim version of its console and then went on to announce said model several years later as was the case with the Xbox 360. Regardless, this doesn’t seem to be the plan right now according to Spencer. We’ll wait till October to be fully sure but in the meantime, don’t get your hopes up.
