The Xbox One X has been doing extremely well with pre-orders as evidenced by Microsoft stating that it sold out week’s inventory for the Project Scorpio Edition in less than one day. GameStop COO Tony Bartel also noted that it was “pleased” with the consumer response in its latest quarterly financial conference call.
CEO Paul Raines also talked about the “massively successful” launch of the Nintendo Switch and how “all consoles have an opportunities for growth.” Raines further noted that, Sony “has also been strong this year.” CFO Robert Lloyd did note later on that the regular Xbox One had “under-performed” against the PS4 with regards to new and pre-owned sales. This could be due to the impending Xbox One X launch as per the retailer.
GameStop further noted that pre-orders were up 19 percent year-on-year and that the third quarter of the fiscal year would see 5 to 10 percent growth thanks to upcoming titles like Assassin’s Creed: Origins, Destiny 2 and Gran Turismo Sport.
