Microsoft Games Studios corporate VP Phil Spencer answered a fair number of questions on Twitter regarding the Xbox One. These ranged from why most Xbox One games didn’t run at 1080p resolution and whether Final Fantasy creator Hironobu Sakaguchi’s next game would be announced for the next gen console.
When asked about the JRPG that Sakaguchi was working on for Xbox One – which a marvelous example of a leading question – Spencer said “Tuesday.” He later clarified that he was only joking about the same. Make of that what you will.
Spencer then stated that though Microsoft would be at GDC 2013, there will be more news as E3 2014 approaches. “I’ll be at GDC but we won’t have a big show, most news will be coming nearer to E3.”
Finally, on being asked whether most games running at 900p on the console was due to the lack of time for developers to optimize for 1080p, he said, “NO, I think you’ll find over this generation games will use a variety of rez and framerates.”
More updates will be incoming, but for now it seems that Microsoft hasn’t conceded defeat in the resolution debate.
