Xbox One X 12GB GDDR5 Memory Won’t Significantly Impact PC Requirements: Conan Exiles Dev

"I do not anticipate PC memory usage to be significantly changed by the arrival of Xbox One X."

Usually, we can trace the minimum requirements for PC games being raised by corresponding bumps in the specs of the consoles available on the market. When the Xbox 360 hit the scene, for instance, PC game requirements went up. So naturally, with the Xbox One X now on the market, and with it general specs being far beyond those of any other console on the market so far, the question has been whether minimum specs for PC games are anticipated to rise again.

According to Tor Egil Andersen, Communications Manager for Funcom, and the folks behind Conan Exiles, that shouldn’t happen, if only because of how much higher than consoles’ baseline PC games’ required specs already are.

“Xbox One X memory is shared in between CPU and GPU, unlike on PC,” Andersen said. “8GB of shared memory is not more than higher end gaming PCs already have (4GB+ of VRAM with 8GB or more of system memory is quite common now), so I do not anticipate PC memory usage to be significantly changed by the arrival of Xbox One X.”

Which makes sense, on the whole- especially since the bulk of the consoles on the market are still, after all, the PS4 and the base Xbox One- so for any multiplatform developers, targeting those as the baseline makes the most sense, anyway. Stay tuned for our full interview soon.
