The Xbox One X’s true value is that it is the most powerful console ever made, and all games will play the best on it out of any console- but without the console having any true exclusives over the existing Xbox One, and many exclusives over the PS4, and its high sticker price of $500, is that enough to compel people to spend money on it?
According to Aaron Greenberg, comparisons of games running on it next to other consoles will be enough to convince users of the console’s value. Speaking to DualShockers, Greenberg said that once customers see what true 4K games look like, next to other consoles’ offerings, the Xbox One X’s value will become self evident.
Greenberg added that Microsoft themselves are not interested in doing any such comparisons for marketing purposes themselves- he doesn’t like taking shots at the competition, and he also feels like the results work best when they are independent of any first party. He feels like online comparisons done by sites like Digital Foundry will be enough.
In the end, he is right about the Xbox One X’s power being the core appeal of the console- but whether or not that is truly enough to sell the console in meaningful numbers beyond its launch is something that remains to be seen.
