Writer’s Note: This story previously mistakenly implied that the game runs in native 4K on the Xbox One X, which it does not. The error is regretted, and the story has since been updated to remove the misinformation.
We already know that Assassin’s Creed Origins runs in dynamic 4K on Microsoft’s upcoming Xbox One X console. But as it turns out, the mechanics behind that are highly fascinating. Assassin’s Creed Origins is rendered in dynamic resolution… it just so happens that the Xbox One X is so powerful, it can render the game a lot of times in 4K anyway.
“We always like to have new toys to play with. Our friends at Microsoft were kind enough to build the Xbox One X. It’s a really cool machine. What it enables for us is we built a dynamic resolution system. What that does on Xbox One X is it enables us to render the game in full 4K. The world we crafted on 4K is amazing. That’s just one of the things we can now do on Xbox One X,” Assassin’s Creed Origins producer Julien Laferriere said to We Write Things.
That actually is remarkable- there was a lot of speculation that the Xbox One X would not be able to support 4K for most AAA games, but the truth of the matter is, Microsoft’s investment in the great hardware, coupled with their software development libraries, has clearly borne fruit here. There is little doubt that multiplatform games that bother to leverage its resources shall find themselves at an advantage. Now if only Microsoft themselves would support the system with some compelling high end exclusives…
