Xbox One’s August Update Adds Automatic Download for Digital Purchases

In addition to 3D Blu-Ray support, updated Friends, Activity Feed sections and more.

Microsoft has done a remarkably great job of following through on its initial promises for the Xbox One by releasing a new, major, features laden firmware update for the console every single month, and it seems like they don’t plan on dropping that trend any time soon, with a new major firmware update planned for the console for August, that adds, among other things, support for automatic downloads of digital purchases.

Essentially, this means that if you make a purchase of an Xbox game using the Xbox Live website or Xbox SmartGlass, then the game will automatically start downloading on your console (so long as the purchase is for the digital version of the game, and your console is in standby), meaning you could potentially start a download from your smartphone at work in the morning and reach home in the evening to find your download done and ready to play. Incidentally, this is a feature PlayStation has had for a while now.

Apart from this, the new update will also be adding 3D Blu-Ray support, updated Friends, Activity Feed sections and ‘more.’ 3D Blu Ray support, especially, is a long requested feature, and one that the PlayStation 4 does not have- yet.
