Xbox Series X Price Will Be “Critical Factor,” Says Phil Spencer

Phil gets it.

The Head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, has been on promotion road as of late talking about Microsoft’s Xbox Series X. The company has been much more talkative about their next generation console than Sony, and has officially unveiled it long before the PS5 (as of writing this, we’ve still not even seen any official pictures of Sony’s next system). There’s been lots of speculation, lots of tech talk, but really what a lot of people are wondering is far simpler: what’s the price going to be? Well, Spencer isn’t ready to let that one out of the bag just yet, but he’s very understanding of how important it is.

Appearing on IGN’s Next Gen Watch, Spencer dropped by to talk a little about the next Xbox. A lot of this was mostly rehashing comments made on IGN’s Unlocked podcast, such as addressing concerns about the system getting delayed due to COVID-19. When it came to price, he wouldn’t quite spill the beans on what the thing was going to cost, but said he was well aware that the pricepoint is going to be the “critical factor” for a lot of consumers. You can check out the full video below.

Spencer has said that the price of the Xbox Series X is still “agile” even as we near the launch, though what that means exactly is unclear. While enthusiasts online love to talk about power and graphics and frame rate, for the average joe, that price tag is going to be above anything else. People have speculated based on looking at individual prices, with many assuming we are in for some pretty expensive pieces of hardware this go around. We’ll just have to wait and see when that sticker shock hits.
