Barring a potential delay due to circumstances surrounding COVID-19, we are on the road to getting a new generation of consoles at the end of this year. While Sony are slow dripping information on the PS5 (we’re just now getting to see the controller for the system, for instance), Microsoft have been pretty open so far about their upcoming Xbox Series X. And today we got an overview video for some of the features.
As part of the Inside Xbox video, we got an overview of the kind of technology that’s in the system. Major Nelson talks to Jason Ronald, the Director of Program Management for the system, about what’s under the hood for the Xbox Series X. Nothing here is particularly new, but they discuss some of the things that will make this more advanced than current systems, like the processor, the SSD storage and ray tracing. There’s clips of games scattered throughout to illustrate some examples. Check it out below.
Xbox Head Phil Spencer has been pretty adamant that the Xbox Series X will still launch this Holiday season, even if some key launch titles may end up having to be delayed. We’ll just have to wait and see, in the end, but for those hardcore techies, this will be a nice little appetizer.
