Xbox SmartGlass App Downloaded 17 Million Times Since October 2012

New features heading to companion app in coming months.

At the recent Build 2013 press conference, Microsoft principal program manager Rosa Thomas recently revealed that SmartGlass, the companion app for Xbox 360 which acts as a second screen for displaying information as you play a game, has been downloaded 17 million times since launching last year in October.

Other stats include how users spend 16 minutes on average with SmartGlass per each application and that 89 percent of users returned within the same week. Despite the relative simplicity of the app, it’s certainly caught fire among all kinds of users.

Of course, there will be more changes and improvements made to SmartGlass in the coming months, including the app not auto-launching content already on your TV while played. You’ll also have the ability to pin apps and games to the interface a la Windows 8 and take advantage of a new Help feature. Some of the functions for SmartGlass will even extend to filterable maps in Forza Horizon, and up to 16 connections for a single console.
