As Playtonic promised during their Kickstarter campaign for the upcoming 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee, they are making special ‘toybox’ demos available to their backers. if you pledged at least £20, you get access to the Toybox demo, an open playground for you to discover secrets and familiarize yourself with Yooka and Laylee’s moves. If you pledged £35, then you get that demo, plus an additional Toybox Plus demo, which also gives you a new area to explore, as well as the chance to check out some combat moves.
“As promised in our campaign, the Toybox isn’t a traditional ‘demo’, but a self-contained, spoiler-free sandbox designed to give Yooka-Laylee backers a taste of the platforming to come in the final game,” said developer Playtonic. “There are moves to try, custom-built props to play with, secrets to discover and yes, shiny collectibles to hunt out and we’ve even included a never-before-seen NPC to chatter with, but it’s only a small sample of the finished production – and visually it’s incomparable.
“In particular, the environments you see in the final version of Yooka-Laylee will be far more vast and detailed than the intentionally-simple playground you’ll be able to jump around in this week. There are also far more moves, animations and general polish included in the main game.”
Both these demos are playable only on PC. Yooka-Laylee is due to launch on PC, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U in 2017.
