70% of Nintendo Switch Owners in US Also Own PS4 or Xbox One, NPD Group Reveals

Switch seems to be expanding the market.

The Nintendo Switch has done remarkably well for itself on the market, having created several records for being the fastest selling home console of all time in the year and half that it has been on the market. However, the really interesting and fascinating thing about it is that it has managed to do as well as it has without cannibalizing the sales of either the PS4 or the Xbox One, both of which have also been doing great for themselves.

How has it done that? The answer is that people are not buying a Switch instead of a PS4 or an Xbox One- they are buying it in addition to those two. This fact comes to us from the NPD Group’s Mat Piscatella, who noted on ResetEra that in the US, 70% of all Switch owners also own a PS4 or an Xbox One as of the end of March this year.

Of course, this statistic makes sense, given that there are three and a half years separating the launches of the Xbox One and PS4 and the launch of the Switch; the direct competition between the systems was reduced as a result. Going forward, it will be interesting to see just how much longer this trend holds.
