Lets be honest here. Call of Duty is an enormous brand and its certainly not invincible as you can see with Guitar Hero. Activision certainly doesn’t want Call of Duty to end up like Guitar Hero did, and for that they need to make sure it is growing.
Sledgehammer CEO, Glen Schofield, told Gamerzines that they were worried about the Call of Duty brand’s momentum and were discussing about it all the time.
“Absolutely, we talk about it all the time,” he said.
about whether there were fears over the franchise losing momentum.
“That’s why it’s all about innovation. We’re fans of (the game) so we know where we want to take it, we know what would make us happy, and we are listening to other fans out there.”
Call of Duty: Black Ops sold 23 million according to Activison which suggests that the franchise is growing at a good rate. Annual cycle doesn’t affect some franchises like FIFA. which generates massive sales for EA, but its risky, and Activision knows it.
