Alone in the Dark, the reboot of the classic survival horror franchise has been delayed. THQ Nordic and Pieces Interactive confirmed it’s now releasing on January 16th, 2024, instead of October 25th.
In a press release, the publisher confirmed that this delay was for more than just polishing – it also avoids major releases like Alan Wake 2 and Marvel’s Spider-Man 2. “We intend to avoid competing with the wake of Alan’s epic release and to evade the dazzling skyline of cities adorned by the graceful swings of Spider-Man. We aim to truly remain as Alone in the Dark as possible.
“To honor this, the spine-chilling horror game has been rescheduled to unveil its horrors on January 16, 2024. This extension will serve a dual purpose: not only will it permit us to meticulously perfect the gaming experience, but it will also grant us the opportunity to fully immerse ourselves in the remarkable releases of October.” Given how packed the month is with other titles like Lords of the Fallen, Sonic Superstars, Super Mario Bros. Wonder, Metal Gear Solid Master Collection Vol. 1 and Ghostrunner 2 releasing, it makes sense.
Alone in the Dark is coming to Xbox Series X/S, PS5 and PC. Set in the 1920s, it features two playable characters: Edward Carnby and Emily Hartwood. The former investigates the disappearance of Emily’s uncle, Jeremy Hartwood, leading him to Derceto Manor. A home for the mentally ill, it has its secrets and supernatural terrors lying in wait. A free Prologue demo is available for all platforms.
