Analyst: Destiny Skipping 2013 to Avoid Clash with Call of Duty

Analyst Arvind Bhatia believes Activision will want to avoid cannibalization of COD's sales.

Sterne Agee analyst Arvind Bhatia recently spoke to CinemaBlend about why Bungie’s Destiny won’t be releasing by 2013 end as most rumours have lead us to believe.

The answer? Call of Duty.

In a report on Activision-Blizzard, Bhatia stated, “We believe Destiny will likely launch sufficiently away from the next Call of Duty to minimize cannibalization”. He confirmed that this was a sales-based decision.

“They will be smart about the timing so as not to cannibalize CoD sales.”

Then again, how big could Destiny actually be if it can lure sales away from the behemoth that is the Call of Duty franchise? Well, according to Bhatia, as big as COD given the right time.

“It could be a billion dollar franchise,” he said.

Destiny is currently slated for Xbox 360 and PS3, but according to Activision and Bungie, it will also be releasing for “future platforms” which has fueled rumours of it arriving on next generation consoles.
